  1. Hype for the Future 170H: Washington and Choctaw Counties, Alabama

Overview Within the southwestern portion of the State of Alabama, two (2) notable counties to the north of Mobile along Route 17 are Washington and Choctaw Counties. Many of the small towns of the region are located along Route 17 and include the Towns of Chatom, Millry, Silas, Gilbertown, Needham, and Butler. The Towns of Chatom and Butler serve as the county seats of Washington and Choctaw Counties, respectively, with the latter home to the Mason Downtown hotel.

  2. Many have heard of the WWII Navajo Code Talkers. I was not aware that there was a group of WWI Choctaw Code Talkers. There are some good backstories in this.

  14. #NativeAmericaCalling: Native Playlist with #KenPomeroy and #SamanthaCrain

    Friday, October 3, 2025

"Two #NativeAmerican women from Oklahoma are carving distinct and inviting musical paths through the music world.

"Samantha Crain is out with her seventh album. 'Gumshoe' offers the latest installment in the veteran #Choctaw singer-songwriter’s musical evolution. The cover artwork — a photo of her own beadwork — is a clue to the roots she draws on for strength and inspiration.

"And Ken Pomeroy is out with her debut album. 'Cruel Joke' invokes a simmering depth of feeling that transcends her young age. She is a natural storyteller from the #CherokeeNation with a lot to say.

"Both of these creative artists are added to the Native Playlist at Native America Calling."

Very good news for the #Freedmen of the #Muskogee / #Creek Nation.

Now it is time for the #Chickasaw, and #Choctaw nations to grant their Freedmen citizenship rights, and for the #Seminole nation to lift their freedmen citizens from their current second-class citizenship status.

  16. On May 23 1838, the forced removal of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Seminole, Chickasaw, Choctaw and other Native American nations began - a land theft and displacement known as the Trail of Tears. Approximately 60,000 people were displaced of whom up to 6,000 died on the Trail.

  17. This is absolutely fascinating, and deeply moving: donations from First Nations to Ireland during the Great Famine extended well beyond those well-known acts of generosity from the Choctaw and Cherokee Nations - from many Nations across both the so-called US & Canada.

  19. Bringing the Ancestors Home

    By #BrendaNorrell, #CensoredNews
    Sept. 9, 2024

OKEMAH, #Oklahoma --"Les Williston, #Choctaw, spoke on living life with honor, during the Convening of the Four Winds gathering at the Phillip Deere Round House on Sunday, hosted by the
#Mvskoke family of the international rights leader Phillip Deere.

"'Your ancestors are always around,' Williston said, speaking of the #SacredPlaces along the rivers. Williston is entrusted with bringing the Chahta ancestors home."

    [...]

"Williston said that all along the rivers, like the #KiamachiRiver in southeastern Oklahoma, there are sacred places, places that are the heart of the people, places where the council was built.

"Speaking on bringing the ancestors home at the Phillip Deer Roundhouse on Muscogee Creek land, Williston was joined by Native people from throughout the nation during the two-day weekend gathering. They shared the history of the struggle for #NativeAmericanRights, the hard-won victories of the 1970s, and the ongoing struggles to protect the water and rivers -- as the #racism, threats of #EminentDomain seizures, the violence of #ManCamps of the #OilAndGas industry, the desecration of #LithiumMining in burial places, and the manipulations of the United States government continue.
With gratitude to the Native women gathered here, Williston said he appreciates the strength of the women speaking and their leadership, for it is a #matriarchal culture.

"'It is important that the women take the lead,' he said. 'I hear the wisdom come from these ladies.' 'We should always listen to the women, our clan mothers and clan sisters.'"
