  9. I went for a 4 km walk today. I had more energy than I did yesterday, thankfully. However, I am starting to have hot flashes again. What gives?

Tomorrow morning, I plan on wearing my orange shirt and joining the #EveryChildMatters walk. I hope my body cooperates. I still want to know why Truth and Reconciliation Day is only a holiday for bankers and politicians. A lot of Indigenous people can't participate because they don't get the day off. Hardly seems reconciliatory, does it?

  15. My dad intentionally did not get me status. He hid from me that we are Mi’kmaq until about fifteen years ago when I found out his sister is Mi’kmaw. He was trying to save me from what had happened to him and his siblings, and you know, maybe he did. Because I was never taken away and incarcerated in one of those loathsome residential “schools”. The last residential school closed three years after I graduated university. He only opened up to me about his mom being Mi’kmaw a year ago. I know almost nothing about Mi’kmaq culture. The very little I do know comes from a Mi’kmaw elder who prepared me to go through a week of ceremony shortly after the lockdowns. Please consider donating to the Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society. You could also look through the #IndigenousMutualAid tag and find folks who can really use your help. #ResidentialSchool #genocide #Indigedon #OrangeShirtDay #IndigenousMastodon #TruthAndReconciliationDay irsss.ca

  18. Climate change solutions becoming a ‘new way of colonizing’ Indigenous peoples, Inuit rep of NunatuKavut says

    • Sea ice conditions are changing, and sea levels are rising

    • Unpredictable weather and changing temperatures impacting ocean, fishing

    • Polar bear behaviour changed, roaming land; aggressive and less wary of humans

  19. "Cheese" like co-producer & co-writer Sterlin Harjo is from Oklahoma & of Mvskoke descent along with other tribal nations.

The majority of the series was filmed in Oklahoma, particularly on the Mvskoke Reservation. Locations included the Mvskoke capital city of Okmulgee.

Season 3 officially began filming on March 20 near Beggs, OK on the Mvskoke Reservation.

  22. Franchises like the Kansas City football team dehumanize Native peoples while encouraging racist behavior in stadiums, schools and on social media. Kansas City and the NFL continue to allow—and reap major profits from—the blatant racism of the team’s very name, logo and behavior like “the tomahawk chop.”

  24. It would be great if all Native and Indigenous people would use the #Native and #Indigenous hashtags for all their posts.

    *It builds community*

Yes allies need to use their own hashtags, #NativeAlly and #IndigenousAlly ???

    And plant and animal people too... #NativePlant #NativeAnimal #IndigenousPlant #IndigenousAnimal ???

And people that that are not Native and were just born somewhere need to stop using the #native hashtag etc. etc.

I see this in my own direct ancestry. My ggrandmothers side of my Native family is full blood, but my ggrandfather's side is mixed. No European women, just men who all fully participated in and integrated into Mvskoke society and its matrilineal clans.

When #African men and women married Natives, they both wanted to be part of Native society and its clans, which as Indigenous people they were familiar and comfortable with.

Previously throughout colonization when European men married Native women, those men wanted to be part of Native society & its clans.

When European women married Native men, those women did not want to be part of Native society, if anything they hid it.

  30. Clans of the Cherokee

This is a great video that demonstrates how different Native matrilineal societies can be.

There are differences among Native Nations but Tsalagi (Cherokee) very similar to Mvskoke. Mvskoke/Tsalagi are both of so called 5 Civilized Tribes. Ancestral & Removal lands are next to each other.

Every reconnecting Native & non-Native should view this.
