Une apprentie guerrière Comanche doit affronter un Predator, chasseur en quête de proies venu de l’espace.Un nouveau regard sur la franchise Predator
Les Comanches faisaient partie des tribus guerrières les plus reconnues, leur habileté à cheval n’avait pas d’égale. Pas de chevaux dans ce film, on se concentre, franchise oblige, sur l’opposition entre guerriers terrestres et extraterrestres. Simpliste mais efficace, ce film est le cinquième opus d’une franchise qu’on peut adorer ou détester. On ne peut pas, par contre, nier la qualité de certains des films. Le premier « Predator » est une référence du film d’action, selon moi, pour plusieurs raisons, la première étant son réalisateur John McTiernan, qu’on retrouvera des années plus tard pour ce qui est, pour moi, la meilleure scène d’ouverture de film de tous les temps dans « Une journée en enfer » (Die Hard with a Vengeance), une masterclass inégalée.
Une réalisation professionnelle et accessible
Le réalisateur de ce film, sans lui faire offense, ne peut pas être comparé à son aîné cité précédemment ; il n’en demeure pas moins que le travail réalisé pour Prey est très professionnel et artistiquement cohérent. Le spectateur n’ayant aucune connaissance de l’univers dont il est question pourra apprécier le film autant que le fan invétéré, c’est à souligner, car certaines franchises ne se donnent pas la peine, ou maladroitement, de traiter les films d’une franchise en les rendant accessibles au plus grand nombre. Le récit est donc tout à fait abordable pour quiconque.
L’importance de l’expérience visuelle et sonore
Les images qui s’offrent à nous sont toutes soignées et servent le propos et surtout le contexte du film et des personnages. La construction globale du récit et la mise en images se dispensent de dialogues longs et inutiles ; les images se suffisent à elles-mêmes. L’ambiance sonore est elle aussi très réussie et contribue pleinement au visionnage et à l’immersion. Il ne s’agit pas là d’un film à voir en sourdine, l’appréciation ne peut se faire qu’à haut volume, car l’environnement sonore est une partie prépondérante dans l’appréciation du spectacle qui nous est proposé.
Quelques regrets mineurs pour un film réussi
Le seul regret qu’on peut avoir est qu’à certains moments, peu, les effets spéciaux ne sont pas vraiment à la hauteur et c’est dommage, mais pas rébarbatif. Cela ne gâche en rien la qualité générale du film, mais on aurait apprécié ne pas avoir ce petit défaut dans ce qui s’avère être une réussite qualitative dans la saga Predator.
Conditions optimales de visionnage
Il n’en reste pas moins que notre attention est captive du début à la fin. Il faut, pour le comprendre, avoir visionné ce film comme dans une salle de cinéma avec le moins de lumières parasites possible et dans un silence de cathédrale, car l’ambiance sonore est indispensable à l’appréciation et à l’immersion.
Une expérience cinématographique à privilégier
Vous l’aurez compris, ce film est à voir dans l’obscurité et avec un volume conséquent. Toute autre condition de visionnage ne rendrait pas honneur et ne lui conviendrait pas, ce serait comme boire du Champagne chaud, on peut, mais on y perd. Rendez-vous service et mettez en place les conditions pour apprécier un film qui s’inscrit dignement dans une saga qui aurait pu se passer de certains films précédents.

Just finished watching S02 of Severance. Fantastic production! If you have not watched this series from S01E01 - worth the seat time.
Jessica Lee Gagné and team are geniuses. The cinematography is excellent. As good ( better in the details & sustainment! ) as any Kubrick, Anderson, or Ridley - next level in fact!
As a Newfoundlander of a certain age, S02E08 was particularly poignant; memories of Grandma's house, grief, and all that... I'm not crying - you're crying! Needs more rocks and ocean spray perhaps.
