Can we please centre #autistic #self-advocates this month instead of parents of autistic children? I don’t want to see parents posting inspiro porn like filming #meltdowns without consent. Plus let’s also hear directly from #autisticadults about their first hand experiences with the support they received both now and growing up on how #allistics can do better.

“have #autistic people considered socialising more so they learn the difference between jokes and plain text” sure is a take that is super fun to see on the so-called #autism website. have #allistics considered hanging around autistic people more so they learn how to be fucking nice to autistic people for two seconds

Does anyone know of #dating or #hookup #apps that either have filters for or cater to #neurodivergent people, perhaps even to #ActuallyAutistic folks? I get overwhelmed having to address certain emotional neediness or opaque mating protocols of #allistics. It’s truly exhausting.
My usual reaction when a guy expects me to just conform to his social expectations is to ghost or block. I just don’t know how to do whatever it is they expect.

🧵2/2 So the plan went as expected. They were caught off guard because I wasn’t reading while they stared. They were equally confused when I had almost zero questions for them. Nah, I’ll take my time and write up a novel once I read the report. Save us all time and email the report BEFOREHAND.
Messing with #allistics and their rando expectations is sometimes real fun. My husband had a smirk the entire time. I’d warned him in advance.
Yea, parents can be #neurodifferent too! 🤣

10 Autistic Phrases Explained: The Meaning of Words Like Allistic and Neurodivergent -
@manzanares Oh my yes! I’ve totally done this. It confuses the fuck out of nearby #allistics when I do it too. LOL They translate it as “you’re not afraid to be wrong,” when really I’m just processing through my own understanding as I’m talking and/or asking about it. It has also been interpreted as mansplaining, and I get that. But it’s not entirely that. I’m selfsplaining, and a cis man, and you just happened to be there. 🤣 #ActuallyAutistic @autism101 @actuallyautistic

I think we should start with the realisation that the dignostic criteria for #autistic people are made by #Allistics.
Allistic researchers judge autistic behaviour by their own needs.
Would you say it's smart to ask a bird to judge gill breathing by their own pulmonary respiration needs? Would be plain stupid,
So how come that we #actuallyautistic are judged by allitic needs?
-
@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic But of course how could we be accepted when all people seem to generally care about is whether we comply with expectations and norms of behavior? There’s more going on underneath, folks, and much of it is how we are #disabled by #allistics. #surprise #ActuallyAustistic #AutisticAF

@f00fc7c8 well, but what does normality mean?
Shouldn't it be normal to respect everyones #HumanRights?
Shouldn't it be normal that everyone has the right to live a good and healthy life?As lang as #allistics say that their normal means to suppress #actuallyautistic people and forcing them to hide their personality, I'll stand up and say: normality include human rights and dignity for everyone.
Let's focus on wellbeing.

Is it only me who finds it confusing that #allistics won't ever just tell you how they operate by themselves but that you have to read up on resources about #autism to find out why they act strangely?
-
@joshsusser @actuallyautistic OMG yea. This thread should be read in it’s entirety.
It’s difficult for a lot of people to recognize how the less extreme #intolerance of #difference — sometimes referenced as #microaggressions — has larger effects. It’s been found in studies that #allistics are very disturbed when interacting with #neurodivergents when they are unaware of their difference. They tend to avoid or bully. These subtle, quiet reactions have an impact.

@stevesilberman I don’t know that’s he’s elected to be an #autistic or #neurodivergent spokesperson either. While I dislike what’s happening at the company, I’m trying not to vilify him mostly because I think of how we’re treated by #allistics. I’d rather he get #support and be better #regulated. Dismissing his business decisions to being driven by his #autism seems to be a step too far. Maybe he’s just bad at #management? @actuallyautistic

@jec
Along those lines, I still see and hear "high functioning" and "low functioning" being used from time to time... I would sure love to get everyone out there, especially #allistics, to stop with those terms. I can be "low functioning" and "high functioning" in the same day, sometimes even the same hour... Case in point, I can't bring myself to even THINK about work right now because I have too many life-problems racing in my mind - I'm experiencing selective mutism (except when I start talking to myself with random phrases) and stimming like a Hollywood stereotype - so a third-party observer may take one look and think "low functioning for sure" without realizing all that I'm mulling over, or all that I can do on a good day with enough spoons.

@stephen I’ve similarly leveraged “hate” to describe my general sense for #allistics I have come to consider it more as code for “I reject having to be proximal to and interact with others for whom I’m expected to ignore my needs for their benefit and be rebuked for expecting any accommodation for my own emotional, sensory, or processing needs.”
“Hate” is like “fuck”. It very efficiently compresses lots of issues.

CW: ADHD just problems? Or also misunderstood solutions?
@adhd @actuallyautistic @ArtBear @actuallyautistic I specifically reject D for Disorder. No. Wrong. Difference, maybe. It’s why I prefer #autistic and #autism. Not sure what the best alternate for this is though. I have seen some use #adh. But “deficit? Compared to who? “#normal”people? Eww. Why do we keep having to relearn these lessons? I think it’s the #allistics who’re #learningdisabled.

CW: Autistic feelings
@saaski @RenoirDana Yes! That! The thing your description of our interesting way of describing our feelings and emotions reminds me of something I hear a lot from #allistics… that my descriptions of things sparks strong visual images for them. I’m a visual processor, so I’ve begun wondering if this translates into the way I describe things and it has this effect on others. #autism can add richness to the world! #neurodiversity

You can call me Mal. I'm a #GenX / #Millennial cusp, a #LateBloomer #lesbian 🌈 and have recently discovered my #LateDiagnosedAutism. I also have #adhd, #CPTSD, and a handful of other #MentalHealth issues and I'm currently still trying to recover from burnout due to Covid and learn how to function in the real world again. Learning how to accommodate myself has been a life changing experience. My long distance girlfriend is also autistic and it has been so beneficial to have someone who truly understands as a support person. Other things of note are that I'm a #leftist #feminist and believe in #IntersectionalFeminism, always work to be actively #AntiRacist, and believe mutual aid and building community is the best and only way for us all to survive late stage capitalism.
My #SpecialInterests include talking about and researching topics like #psychology, #trauma, anti-capitalism, and the communication differences between #autistics and #allistics.
For fun I like to play #WorldOfWarcraft and read the lore books. I've been playing since Cataclysm came out and my favorite characters are #AnduinWrynn, #VarokSaurfang, #Illidan, and #KaelthasSunstrider. My favorite class to play is a Demon Hunter and my favorite expansion was Legion. I also love the #DragonAge games, specifically the second one, the show #GameOfThrones, and frequently lose large chunks of time playing #thesims4. I am also currently hyperfixating on Taylor Swift's new album even though I have never liked her music before 😂
I live in a very rural, very conservative area so I'm really hoping to find other people like me, specifically other #lesbians, who I can connect with. So if any of this resonates with you, let's be mutuals 🌈💗

#Wikipedia und #Autismus
"...Die Fähigkeit zur kognitiven Empathie (Einfühlungsvermögen) ist gar nicht oder nur schwach ausgeprägt...."
Nochmal: double empathy problem.
@kpelgbt I go to a lot of allistic-centered events held by various Muslim groups, which I can get a lot out of in general. However, there tends to be a lot of simultaneous talk, kids running around, overamplification, and things that don't bother #Allistics but that can literally kill us #Autistics slowly. The Loops allow me to be present in the room, even if I don't always understand what's said.

I had a meltdown the other day. When I was feeling better, I came to the realization that I have extremely low tolerance at people getting angry at me, or judging me because they expect me to do things that neurotypicals can do but I can't, like reading minds.
I tried a few search queries just to see if there was some useful information about the tendencies of allistic people to get mad at austistics. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a widespread phenomenon, and if we had more likelihood of going through painful experiences due to others' anger.
The results? ALL OF THEM were about anger in autistic people, or aggression in autistic people. NOTHING about how allistics mistreat us or misjudge us. I guess that's the kind of research that doesn't get funding.
