Spent a few hours last night trying to log into a character on a custom WoW server (Ascension). Silent hang at the loading screen — no errors, no crash, just a thread spinning forever.

Turned out the anti-cheat is a .NET 2.0 DLL, and Wine's open-source .NET replacement deadlocks loading it. One winetricks-dotnet35-installation ater and I was in.

Sometimes the fix is one command. Finding which command is the hard part.

I think I've managed to make enough Magnificent Towering Bookcases to fill the space I had for a library...
It took 42 in the end and fills up three storeys. I experimented with another spiral staircase, but I didn't like how it felt - so went with a traditional zig-zag style.... with floating treads. I may still tweak more things, but for now... I think its done. #WorldOfWarcraft
