  1. Call of Duty 2026 Won’t Be On Last-gen

    It’s official, folks; this year’s Call of Duty game will not be available on PS4, and presumably not on Xbox One, either. This will be the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts that a new CoD game won’t launch on PS4.

    Confirmation game from the official Call of Duty X account when it decided to address recent rumours that this years CoD was being playtested on PS4.

    “Not sure where this one started, but it’s not true. The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4”, said the account.

    It doesn’t mention it, but presumably if the game isn’t being developed for PS4 then there won’t be an Xbox One version, either.

    Last-gen consoles still have a stronger playerbase than you might expect. Last year Sony stated that as of mid-2025, PS5 monthly users had finally surpassed those using PS4. In other words, that’s a lot of potential sales that Call of Duty is missing out on, especially since the last couple of entries haven’t done so well on the sales front.

    But the good news is that by ditching last-gen, the new games should have more room to spread their wings technologically speaking. At least, that’s the hope.

  10. L'ouvrage Play Nice de Jason Schreier diffère un peu de ses deux précédents, qui proposaient des chapitres relativement indépendants consacrés à chaque fois à des jeux ou des studios différents.

    Cette fois, il retrace l'histoire de #Blizzard (puis l'histoire de Blizzard au sein d'#Activision Blizzard), jeu après jeu, service après service, sur la base de 350 entretiens.

    C'est bien mené, on saisit comment l'entreprise et ses valeurs évoluent dans le temps (en tout cas comment JS voit les choses, lui qui parfois ne se gêne pas pour répéter souvent la même allusion, par exemple l'influence de l'annulation du jeu Titan) et ça se lit très facilement. Par contre, scientifiquement c'est du matériel très compliqué à utiliser car extrêmement mal sourcé, avec des raccourcis quasi-téléologiques, et quelques méchants tout désignés (qui le méritent, mais ça aurait valu la peine de mieux le documenter) et semblent utilisés par facilité pour faire avancer le propos.

    Comme d'habitude, j'adore lire Schreier, mais il faut savoir revenir à un paradigme plus exigeant une fois le livre reposé.

  17. I don't think Phil is going to "kill" Xbox. Quite the contrary, if it wasn't for him, Xbox would have become the new SEGA.

    The goal is still the same: focus on content rather than hardware. It made sense in 2010s, still is, but not in the future.

    For that, the ABK acquisition is corner stone given their active franchises.
