Do you use the keyboard controls for Mastodon's official web interface?
If so, you might like to know that there's an undocumented command Ctrl + Enter which will publish whatever you're writing. It's not clear why this isn't on the official command list. (Thanks to @antdesros for pointing this out 🙏 )

You can use animated GIFs for your profile avatar and header on Mastodon. Uploads are at:
Edit Profile > Appearance
⚠️ Do NOT use rapidly flashing images, as these can be extremely dangerous for people with certain neurological conditions.
If you don't want other people's GIFS to autoplay, you can switch them all off by going to:
Preferences > Appearance > Autoplay animated GIFs (untick, then click "Save Changes")

Heh, I wouldn't discount the use of goodwill shorteners like #Envs for badly formed URLs, as an exception. Although, when you copy from address bar, browsers would make sure to make link compatible with standard, so it's pretty rare you'd ever end up with such a URL.I had to use URL shortener yesterday to satisfy Youtube's parsing of my Matrix.to channel link. But parser on Mastodon is OK.

No guarantee that it will function as expected. Or even appear at all.
Also, if you try to use multiple links, only the first one that works will appear.

I'm using @elk canary, which started supporting scheduled posts using Mastodon's `scheduled_at` parameter. However, there's no way to delete scheduled / unschedule posts yet, so I published a Mastodon Unschedule CLI tool: https://github.com/jangobrecht/MastodonUnschedule

You can do tag searches on other instances without having to up sticks and leave yours. On a Mastodon instance, just add "tags" and the term you want to search to its URL, like;

It's an ugly hack, and we need to come up with ways to make the verse more searchable, while respecting the needs of folks nervous about being found by dragnet style search tools. But as a stopgap, it works.

If you use Friendica to access the Fediverse, you can also use it as an RSS feed reader.
Just search for any RSS address within Friendica, and it will appear in search results as though it's a Fediverse user. You will then be able to follow it, and its contents will appear in your timeline just like a user's posts would.

I wandered over here because the categorical server I joined was taken over by people with an agenda, and firm opinions on how everyone else should use the Fediverse. Also rude and threatening, and blocked this which had a half-dozen people I followed or vice versa.Why did other people choose this server?
Encourage movement: promote specific interest groups.

One of my reoccurring unsolved problems is, finding stuff i know exists but I only remember fragments about.
E.g. I know I follow a person but can't recall their handle. Search is useless as i can't restrict it to "following". Handle auto-completion only works if i know enough of the beginning of the handle.
Essentially I have to scroll through my followings, bookmarks, favourites or wherever I think I find them easiestIs this a client problem?

The thing that most people haven't realised here is that @hello works fine in most #Fediverse software.
We've tested it since #Fedigroups started their close beta about a year ago already (or was it two now? I can't recall exactly when).
Many of the #threadiverse Fediverse software are having issues in other fediverse software. Even #Guppe itself is not compatible with other fediverse software.
Fedigroups.social simply works and they work on compatibility if there are new issues found since they concentrate on it.
If you truly want to build a community with a true fediverse reach, currently only fedigroups.social has the widest compatibility versuse Thrediverse software and Guppe. (Aside from Hubzilla and Friendica.)
