Does anybody know what’s going on with the #IceCubes Mastodon client (#iOS)?
No updates for half a year now, I don’t get notifications any more, strange toast messages without proper text strings…

@theVedek Ja, bei mir stürzt die App regelmäßig ab, wenn ich während ich einen Beitrag schreibe versehentlich ins Querformat gehe. Und manchmal lädt die Timeline einfach nicht nach, wenn ich in die Vergangenheit zurück gehe.

Ich habe eine Weile „tooot“ genutzt, komme aber mit #IceCubes trotz der Einschränkungen besser zurecht 🤷‍♂️

Benutzt noch jemensch #IceCubes ?
Ich war sehr glücklich damit. Aber seit einiger Zeit läuft es nicht mehr rund, Beträge dauern ewig bis sie bei mir angezeigt werden, ab und zu verschluckt es soch komplett.

Ich hab mir jetzt vorübergehend Mastodon draufgepackt, bin aber ziemlich unzufrieden was die Einstellungsmöglichkeiten angeht. Weiß jemensch noch ne gute Alternative? (Ach ja, Limiting Faktor: IPhone was von der Firma, und nur ca 1% Ahnung vom Programmieren)

@haraldschirmer Falls dir die lokale Timeline von colearn.social fehlt: in Apps wie #Icecubes kannst du dir beliebig viele lokale Timelines im Menü einrichten und kannst dich in jede Stammkneipe "zuschalten" :)

Try phanpy if you want to see threaded posts on Mastodon as they are intended. Not sure why #ivory and other mastodon clients don’t follow this standard.

I have filled the gaps in the Polish translation for #icecubes. The pull request is awaiting @IceCubesApp / @dimillian approval. 85% had been translated, now it’s complete. I didn’t make any drastic changes, I focused on filling in the gaps and tried to remain consistent with the existing translation as much as possible out of respect for the other translators and current users.

TLDR: no i wróciłem na #icecubes..

Oficjalna apka Mastodon jest zwyczajnie zła. Szukałem alternatyw. Mona mi nie weszła, Toot nie ma interfejsu po polsku (a lubię po polsku, nie to że muszę), natomiast #nicolium było bardzo blisko pozostania jako domyślny klient Mastodon na moim telefonie. Podoba mi się jak został zaprojektowany i jak działa, było parę rzeczy, do których musiałem się przyzwyczaić. Czasem czułem problem z responsywnością, ale to mogła być wina łącza, na którym wtedy byłem. Uzupełnianie tagów działa inaczej niż przywykłem, no i postanowiłem wrócić do Ice Cubes ze względu na brak automatycznego generowania alt textów dla obrazów, zwyczajne zbyt leniwy jestem żeby robić to ręcznie. IC robi to w dwie sekundy.

Żeby nie było, IC ma swoje za uszami i z tego powodu próbowałem zmienić. Gdyby Toot był po polsku, pewnie bym kupił i sprawdził.

I like the Ice Cubes app but it’s been buggy lately. Crashes on opening and thus unusable for a few days. Today it’s working again (despite no recent App Store updates) but still feels a bit unstable.

Anyone else been having similar experiences with it lately?

@Mendi_Tech @countrymetalhead Agreed. #IceCubes would be my suggestion, on iPhone. On desktop I wouldn’t even worry about the Mona client, nothing beats @statuzer in a browser AFAIC.

Leider hat die App seit 5 Monaten kein Update. Vermutlich weil der Entwickler ja bei OpenAI angefangen hat.

@delta I've finally gotten used to liquid glass in #IceCubes. Took a while for the novelty to just fade away to background "meh", as do all attempts at candying up a UI, eventually

After trying a few different #Mastodon front ends to #GotoSocial, I think #Tusky in #Android is best, followed by #elk for the desktop (elk runs in a #Docker container on a #RaspberryPi), then worst of all is any #iPadOS experience - #Icecubes works poorly - with GotoSocial #OpenSource #ActivityPub

I think the Claude Code source that was released goes way beyond “sloppy” which is why I used the phrase: “inchoate nonsense”.

AND I was amazed that code that poor worked as well as it did.

Maybe the code *was* reviewed by Anthropic engineers but if it was it isn’t any form of review I recognize.

I also know that the developer of #IceCubes (works at OpenAI now) used LLMs extensively for v2. That code is reviewable. I’ve made changes in it.

So, is #IceCubes effectively dying? I recall reading some time back that the developer has left Mastodon and is no longer maintaining the app. I’ve noticed lots of creeping issues with loading content on it and I would be real sad if it stops working because it’s such a great Mastodon client.

Ridiculous design choice in #Icecubes for the #iPad : you can't download a vid until you press a a small i with a circle around it, for more information, presumably. The download button is buried three taps deep. It's not a first class button, but is rather a third class button: 1) i with a circle, 2) Upload icon, 3) upload to where? "Save Video", with a down arrow. That's the download button you were wanting.

Totally unergonomic. i -> Upload -> Download.

About as easy as bestowing 30 lives on yourself when playing Contra on the original Nintendo. I truly save these videos (and photos) later on in bulk to #Copyparty, exfiltrating them from the "Walled Garden" of the "Photos" app - where the Videos are confusingly also stored.

It's so simple that it's complicated. All this to try to hide the existence of a logical and usable filesystem

I don’t know if it’s an iPadOS thing or an Ice Cubes thing, but the New Post window needs to be RESIZABLE on iPadOS.

Fucking liquid glass has elements all piled on top of each other, making adding photos or hashtags a chore.
