  1. https://wafrn.net/faq/user.html#featureRequests is the closest thing I've seen to a formal list of planned features but you can also search the codeberg issues for ones labeled "enchancement" cause there are things in there that aren't on the list that are at least being considered afaik

  2. As part of the explore/search dropdown, it might be a nice feature to have "from:me" and "in-library" as one of the top dropdown options, or default.

Or, a pop-up/link to a page like this:

    fedi.tips/how-do-i-search-for-

Or, perhaps I'll try to be less senile.

  4. mastodon needs signatures. like the ones we had on phpbb forums

  5. We need to be able to add followed hashtags to our lists. I can’t be the only person that heavily leverages the List functionality of Mastodon.

  6. So so glad @phanpy added a toggle for per account notifications! This was one of the last remaining reasons to regularly open Mastodon web.

  7. Music applications should let you import a blacklist e.g. all the songs from bad high school relationship mixtapes.

Don't make me wait for them to pop up and have to hide them one at a time...

    Welche

  9. When boosting it would be good if you could add a CW when one isn’t already present, but you want to add one for your followers. #masotdon #featurerequest #featurerequests

  10. Thank you to the administrator of veganism.social for increasing the character limit on post ( toot ) to 10,000 characters.

Nobody invites people to a party and then makes it a rule to not talk too much.

    The "social" in "social media".

The default character limit on Mastodon is too short.

The tools to do that aren't here.

The best you can do is an incomplete process that leaves portions of your account behind and a complicated process you have to do manually.

  12. @nm

    Yuck.

#Mastodon has no shortage of #FeatureRequests and #BugFixes to keep them busy. They didn't need to gratuitously rearrange the links.

Thanks for the heads up Nume, and for keeping the software the latest.

  13. #featurerequests #dbnavigator:

1️⃣android notifications in der app wieder hervorholen. einmal geklickt, sind sie weg.

2️⃣notifications, die per email kommen parallel an die app schicken. single source of truth.

    Danke 🙏

  14. If I post on Facebook I don't want, I don't expect, my post to appear on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. If I post on Mastodon I don't want my content to go to Kbin, Lemmy, Threads (Meta's decentralized app), or a site/app I never heard of. I don't want my content going someplace that I did not *choose* as a destination.

I've gotten a number of federation fan boys lecturing me that is what the decentralization is all about.

Decentralization has been sold as a protective move against corporate abuse. Preventing another Elon Musk and protecting people from anti-user pro-profit policies.

Mastodon and open source are supposed to be about respecting users.

I think it should be a user's choice where her/his content ends up. I think it should be in their power to make that choice easily without having to rely on the good will of an Instance Admin.

I think each Toot & Reply should have the following visibility options.

    1. Public - Everywhere
    2. Private ( only @ tagged people )
    3. Mastodon ( everywhere on Mastodon, only )
    4. Local ( only on the local server of the user )

Plus a Preference for the user to pick his/her default visibility level.

  15. Making feature requests for Mastodon on #GitHub

I understand comments being made on feature requests at GitHub.

What I have experienced is something else. I'm not sure I can articulate it.

    These comments seem different.

Sort of like a discussion forum thread.

Random people popping in. Kibbitzing. Being oppositional as an end in itself.

What the hell? I just wanted to make a suggestion. I didn't invite them.

I don't even know if they are involved with the project.

  19. 🐶💻 New features in your software may seem adorable like a puppy, but consider the long-term costs and efforts! Learn how to make a cost-benefit analysis in our article: frans.vanhaelewijck.com/genera #SoftwareDevelopment #FeatureRequests #CostBenefit

  20. @TomDelargy @neilhimself #QuotePosts are a tool. They have tremendous power. A chainsaw can destroy or it can make a beautiful ice sculpture. A hammer can shatter or it can be used to nail a new house together.

@neilhimself & others use them to great effect. Many others use them to ruinous effect.

Give us the tool and, like the rest of #Mastodon and the #Fediverse, let users reward/punish its use as we see fit.

  21. Would be nice to have a #list of "posts not on any list", so it would be easier to notice if someone who should be on a #Mastodon list has been accidentally omitted.
    #FeatureRequests

  22. A problem for me on Mastodon has been creating Lists that curate a specific kind of topic rather than by-personality.

If I list a climate scientist they post pictures of their cats.

If I list a photographer, their photos sit amongst posts about putting the kettle on.

Is there a way to improve the signal-to-noise ratio? A way to make a List only pull through posts from listed accounts that contain specific topic hashtags?

  23. @JPEGuin some #FeatureRequests make compose searchable like when tagging a person or hashtag. Would love to see the ability to add gif and see them too. But very solid start

  24. Don't make me tap "load more" to load more. Scrolling is a user request to load more already. Tapping the load more button is an unnecessary action.

    Also, ban Nazis.

  25. CW: Mastodon app feature suggestions

The features I’d most like to see added to the #MastodonApp:

    1. Edit existing toots

    2. Delete & Re-draft toots

    3. Greater visibility of the local and federated timelines

    4. A dedicated section for DMs, i.e. toots that are only visible to people I mention

    5. Prompt by default whether ‘reblogs’ are to followers, public or unlisted, with an option to choose a default in Settings

    6. Call ‘reblogs’ boosts!

    7. Settings for font size and control over visibility of CWs and long posts within the app

    8. Indent the body of the toot text to make the timeline easier to scan (#Tooot and T*****r have got this right IMO!)

    9. Default to showing #CamelCase #hashtags, not lower case, which are better for #ScreenReaders

    10. In-app support for migrating servers

One further suggestion: 💬 (or similar) would make a better icon for CWs, which are typically used as content notices or summaries (as per the #ActivityPub spec), rather than warnings. #ContentWarning #ContentNotice #ContentWrapper #Mastodon #FeatureRequests #UX #noxp @Gargron 🙏

  26. @icanswiftabit

In context of #Maturity and the rest of the info in this thread, it is now **only** the awkwardly limited lists feature that still makes it impossible to replace #Twitter / #Tweetdeck with #Mastodon / #Mastalab.

    (This is my own opinion/judgement, and I am veey curious to know whether;
    a) there are any other, more serious blockers for such maturity/situation change, and if so;
    b) whether that/those other such missing features/adjustments actually invalidates my point here, or just adds to it.)

  27. CW: There should be a way to save #search combined #hashtags as #filters ..:

I (repeatedly) want to find/list/explore (only) toots that includes ALL my provided hashtags (or keywords too, really), so that when i search for "#featureRequests" and "#Mastalab", the search results show only toots that has both those tags in them.

Then save and reuse that search later, as a "list variant".

    [toot-quote]
"@marcozehe So sorry. I will fix everything. It is a top priority."
    [/toot-quote]

Here is a good example of the negative effect that the lacking "re-tweet"/"re-toot" feature has:

Ideally I would in this case want to quote the toot in a "reply" manner without actually directly addressing or demanding Tom's attention, but only adding the "missing" #i11y and #accessibility hashtags to his positive response, to aid its #visibility and #context when boosted further through the #fediverse.

But this is currently not possible due to a very firm #Mastodon #designDecision.

I never understood @Gargron's negative position on this particular (missing) #feature.

Technically, though, isn't it possible to work around this limitation on the client side, for example in/by #Mastalab?
