"Data collection has become something that is hard to avoid in our modern societies. From telemetry to sensible personal data, many companies and even state actors rely on it for carrying out their operations. But is it really an issue? After all, I have nothing to hide.
What if I tell you that women were persecuted in the USA because they played to Candy Crush or used Tinder, and that their location data were sold to law enforcement which now criminalises people going to abortion clinics in some states? Or that it isn’t that difficult to figure out the real identity of spies with publicly sold data for little money? And when the data isn’t already available, state actors don’t hesitate to hack their own population, including in democratic countries like France and Spain.
Data collection has tangible impacts on our societies and democracies. Whether it’s for making business profits or controlling its own population while weakening adversary countries, the goal is the same: control. And with the current AI trend, data collection is reaching unprecedented highs.

Not only does this show that "productivity gains" are like a mirage given the lackluster performance of the 493, but it also doesn't show the massive societal losses associated with your technology outside of financial markets.
To users of the tech, I'm not debating whether their automations are time savers or not.... But societally, there is no data proving how this is good financially or otherwise.

At my child's birthday party today the Dad of one of the guest kids and I were talking. Quick mentions about current work status.
I'm not in tech now, except for the odd small tech support one-off jobs.
He's long term with a very large tech, info-coms Org. But not a developer as I was/am.
He proceeded to "enlighten" me about how easy programming is more with Claude as long as you know a bit about coding. How you don't really need to learn much at all. How he's making powershell scripts to run 'reset to baseline' operations on their division devices now.
All the while, I'm smiling and generally trying to not make a scene at my kid's birthday party.I think I'll be getting a set of T-Shirts printed with messages to the effect of
"If you talk to me about AI,
I'll scream and I won't stop." -
