Jeśli myśleliście, że Elon Musk ma za dużo firm, to właśnie postanowił uprościć strukturę.

Reuters donosi o poufnych rozmowach w sprawie fuzji SpaceX i xAI. Plan jest szalony i genialny zarazem: stworzyć technologicznego potwora, który pod jednym dachem będzie miał rakiety, globalny internet, media społecznościowe i najpotężniejszą sztuczną inteligencję. A potem? Potem wejść z tym na giełdę.

Wszystko w jednym worku

Do tej pory imperium Muska było rozsypane jak klocki Lego. SpaceX robiło rakiety, xAI robiło czatbota Grok, a X (dawny Twitter) próbował przetrwać jako platforma społecznościowa (będąca już własnością xAI). Teraz te klocki mają zostać złożone w jedną całość. Według źródeł Reutersa, nowa struktura zakłada wymianę akcji xAI na akcje SpaceX.

Co to oznacza w praktyce? Powstaje podmiot, który kontroluje:

• Transport kosmiczny (monopolista SpaceX).
• Globalną łączność (Starlink).
• Obieg informacji i danych (Platforma X).
• Sztuczną inteligencję (xAI/Grok).

Cel finansowy jest jasny: IPO stulecia. SpaceX już teraz wyceniane jest na 800 mld dolarów, a xAI na 230 mld. Połączony podmiot celuje w wycenę powyżej 1 biliona dolarów na starcie. Swoją drogą, brzmi jak kontynuacja rywalizacji z Samem Altmanem, który ma plan na bilionowe IPO, o czym pisaliśmy wcześniej.

Serwerownie na orbicie?

Ale fuzja ma też (zaskakujące) uzasadnienie techniczne. Musk w Davos rzucił hasło, które wielu uznało za żart: „Najtańszym miejscem dla AI będzie kosmos”. Okazuje się, że to nie żart, a strategia. Budowa centrów danych na Ziemi jest drogą przez mękę: brakuje prądu, a chłodzenie pochłania jeziora wody. W kosmosie:

• Energia ze słońca jest darmowa i nielimitowana (brak chmur, nocy).
• Chłodzenie jest darmowe (próżnia i niskie temperatury).
• Łączność zapewnia Starlink.

Połączenie SpaceX i xAI ma przyspieszyć projekt umieszczania superkomputerów na orbicie. To brzmi jak science-fiction, ale przy obecnych kosztach energii na Ziemi, może okazać się jedynym sposobem na dalsze skalowanie AI.

Pentagon zaciera ręce

Jest jeszcze trzeci gracz przy tym stole: Armia USA. SpaceX już teraz buduje dla wywiadu sieć satelitów szpiegowskich Starshield. Pentagon chce, by te satelity nie tylko „patrzyły”, ale też „rozumiały”. Wstrzyknięcie technologii xAI (Grok) bezpośrednio do infrastruktury SpaceX pozwoli wojskowym na błyskawiczną analizę danych z orbity. Sekretarz Obrony USA Pete Hegseth wizytował niedawno bazę SpaceX i mówił wprost o „integracji Groka z sieciami wojskowymi”.

Ryzyko? Gigantyczne

Dla inwestorów to marzenie, ale i ryzyko. Łączenie tak różnych biznesów (stabilne, rządowe kontrakty SpaceX vs. chaotyczne, konsumenckie media społecznościowe X) to karkołomne zadanie. Analitycy przypominają fuzję Tesli z SolarCity – ruch, który uratował tę drugą firmę, ale na lata obciążył Teslę. Czy tym razem chodzi o ratowanie X przy pomocy pieniędzy z rakiet? A może o to, by SpaceX stało się pierwszą firmą w historii, która nie tylko podbije Marsa, ale też będzie wiedziała, co myślimy, zanim tam dotrzemy?

Jedno jest pewne: jeśli ta fuzja dojdzie do skutku, Musk stworzy firmę o władzy, jakiej nie miał żaden korporacyjny byt w historii.

The venture capitalist Marc Andreessen
— also a board member of Meta and major investor in X
— has been recruiting Trump administration staffers and even influencing Defense Department and intelligence agency hiring, The Washington Post reports.

As usual, he’s given the game away by bragging about it on a podcast.

Silicon Valley investors generally have been bullish on defense tech like industry poster children #Anduril and #Palantir.

(a16z is a major Anduril backer, and both companies are founded and owned by some of the Valley’s earliest MAGA faithful.)

They want to shift Pentagon spending away from old-school contractors like Lockheed Martin,
which appears to be so freaked out that when the “Big Tech Alert” X account noted it had unfollowed Musk,
the Lockheed account DM’d to say it was “inadvertent.”

Musk’s #SpaceX has a number of contracts with the US military and intelligence agencies,
including the so-called #Starshield satellites.

He’s used his influence to meddle in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and has even reportedly taken phone calls from Vladimir Putin.

The military’s interest in artificial intelligence has also inspired a new race for everything from
building out data centers to providing cloud computing.

Musk’s #xAI, something of an also-ran next to OpenAI, Meta, and Google, could legitimize itself with DoD contracts.

Out of the other media coverage Politico got it almost right, because they clearly explain that #IRIS2 is not a competitor to #Starlink.

Their title (“Relax Elon — the EU isn’t an immediate threat to Starlink”) is still a bit manipulative, because it kind of ignores the fact that Elon does indeed run a project - the SpaceX #Starshield - for which IRIS2 is a direct competitor. But later on in the article they do explain it.

But here’s a paragraph that I find much more valuable because I myself also used this analogy as well:

However, the bloc’s earlier space programs — such as GPS-alternative Galileo and Earth observation system Copernicus — also attracted similar criticism, but are now considered world-beating space infrastructure.

My own point was that media has a tendency to moan about everything without really digging into the essence of the problem. When Galileo was rolled out, the media moaned “why own GNSS when there’s free GPS”. Now when Russia is jamming GPS in EU, everyone is again moaning “why EU isn’t doing anything with it”. Well, they actually do and both Galileo and IRIS2 are direct responses to these challenges.
