El Secretario del Tesoro de EE. UU. ha confirmado un acuerdo final para la transferencia de la versión estadounidense de TikTok a propietarios con mayoría americana. Este pacto se «consumará» oficialmente este jueves durante una cumbre entre los presidentes Donald Trump y Xi Jinping en Corea. El acuerdo forma parte de un marco de discusión más amplio que busca abordar temas comerciales clave entre Estados Unidos y China (Fuente Techcrunch).
El Secretario del Tesoro de EE. UU., Scott Bessent, anunció el domingo que los detalles del acuerdo para la venta de las operaciones de TikTok en Estados Unidos están finalizados tras negociaciones que incluyeron una reunión previa en Madrid. El hito clave será el encuentro programado para el jueves en Corea entre el presidente Trump y su homólogo chino, Xi Jinping, donde formalizarán la transacción.
Este acuerdo se produce después de que el presidente Trump firmara una orden ejecutiva el 25 de septiembre que allanaba el camino para que la aplicación de videos cortos fuera adquirida por nuevos dueños con una mayoría de inversores estadounidenses. Bessent enfatizó que su rol era obtener la aprobación de China para la transacción, lo cual cree haber logrado con éxito.
Aunque Bessent no reveló los detalles comerciales específicos, los informes indican que la estructura del acuerdo se adhiere a una ley bipartidista aprobada en 2024 que exigía la desinversión de la matriz china de TikTok, ByteDance, para evitar una prohibición total de la aplicación.
Puntos clave del acuerdo:
- La nueva entidad de TikTok con sede en EE. UU. estará compuesta por una mayoría de inversores estadounidenses e internacionales, que poseerán aproximadamente el 65% de la compañía.
- ByteDance y los inversores chinos retendrían una participación inferior al 20%.
- El control del algoritmo y la mayoría de los asientos en la junta directiva (seis de siete) serán transferidos a los nuevos inversores estadounidenses, abordando las preocupaciones de seguridad nacional. Se ha sugerido que entre los inversores americanos se encuentran figuras como Rupert Murdoch y Larry Ellison.
