I've seen a few PyCon US recap posts show up, and it's so fun reading through those different perspectives.
I've added my own impressions, told through the lens of improv (thanks to @pamelafox and @ekohilas for inspiring it as such).
(As ever, words barely scratch the surface... but there's pictures too!)

@pythonbynight Mario, I won't be able to attend this year, if you have the chance, please invite people to try out #py5 https://py5coding.org

Remember when I posted about PyCon US and Art in the same toot? Well, some friends and I are pretty excited about it.
And guess what, we're looking for folks to join us on Friday, May 15 to create art, showcase art, and even discuss what art even means in this age of "AI".
https://us.pycon.org/2026/events/open-spaces/#openspace-40
We want to showcase the creativity of the Python community, and we'd love to see your art. Do you have something you plan to bring? Or an idea for an art project you want to lead?
(We're also looking for a few volunteers to help us run the open space(s). Let us know if you want to volunteer to make this celebration of creativity happen.)
You can message me here, on DM, or send an email to [email protected]

I blogged about my recent experience at North Bay Python. Probably more of the same if you followed the chatter over the weekend.
A summary and video of my talk are elsewhere. Here I reflect on some of my inner thoughts before/during my talk, a reflection on a few talks that seemed connected to my theme, and impressions overall.

Phew. Just got done with my #PyCascades talk. You can find a blog version of my talk here!

One of the more remarkable features of Valerie Veatch’s Sundance film Ghost in the Machine is the fantastic diversity of voices detailing the eugenic and techno-fascist underpinnings of the AI industry.
It stands in stark contrast to the typical tech bros who wax poetic about the incoming age of AGI...

I follow Simon's blog (@simon ), as I find it very informative, thorough, and enlightening.
His most recent post on LLM predictions for 2026 did catch my eye and I had a few thoughts I wanted to capture.
Keep in mind, they are not repudiations.
I happen to have more of a fascination with words and metaphors (damn humanities background), which sends me on certain journeys.
Anyway, here you go...

I'm a day late to my reflection on the year ahead, but hey, better late than never!
I figure I'll likely keep my attention on the kind of writing I did to close out the year... not because I think I have anything novel or authoritative to say on the subject--rather, I think the conversation is worth having.
It ended up being a good day to write about what's been on my mind because there was an embarrassing amount of riches to draw from (sadly) from the day's news.
Anyway, for more nuance, follow the link:

p.s. Looks like the publish date wants this to be titled third day?... nevermind that... 😁

I tried to do one of those "year in review" type of posts... It was going to have "sections"... and cover different "things" ...
My ONE section got too long, so I made it its own post... who knows if I'll get to the rest of the things... 😅
Anyway, here's the stuff I listened to this year...

📺 I watched the Selena documentary on Netflix last night. Left me doing some unplanned for introspection... so wrote a quick post about that:
-
I know @hynek has praised Lazygit in the past, but after his post yesterday, I decided to try it out.
So yeah, I kinda like it.

@pythonbynight Yaaay, Djangonaut Space represent!

I've been working on a Typer CLI app with a database backend. Each time I need to set up Alembic (for migrations), I need to go back to the docs and learn all the things (again)...
I wanted to see if I could incorporate alembic commands into my own CLI app. At the least, it would let me inject some custom logic and/or command names.
Wasn't quite sure where to start, but eventually I got there...
So I decided to write about it.
