Our body’s ability to adapt to new demand so quickly blows my mind.

Pet peeve: sales people who are trained to completely run over people with their scripted pitch. If you want to sell something — anything —relationship building is key.
If you come to my door selling something that I politely decline, the best response is, “thank you for your time, I hope you’ll consider us if your needs change.” If you want to ensure you’ll NEVER get my business, you’ll talk over me, disrespect my time, and refuse to listen when I clearly say no. #SalesTraining #PetPeeve

Sheffield DocFest is this weekend and if you're in the area I highly recommend it. I've been for the last few years and seen some fantastic, fascinating documentaries that I wouldn't have caught otherwise. Also cinemas have air con. The Crucible theatre in particular is beautifully cool in this weather, if you're seeking respite from the heat.

This summer I was excited to have lost enough weight to fit into some of my favourite old clothes. But I’ve found most of my 20 year old shorts weren’t designed with pockets that fit modern cell phones. Didn’t anticipate THAT, did I? Sigh. 🫤😂

Of course this shimmery blue beauty caught my eye on my walk earlier, how could it not? Common blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus).

The distinctive yellow band on this hoverfly in the garden caught my eye. Apparently common but new to me. Dasysyrphus tricinctus, aka yellow-girdled brusheye.

Just popped out to put some washing on the line and a leafcutter bee (Megachile centuncularis) flew by carrying its cargo. It took a little break on my garden table so I grabbed my phone and waited for it to take off again so I could see it grasp its leaf. Here’s a little slo-mo clip

My wild carrot brings all the bugs to the yard.
This is easily the mvp of my back yard right now. Every one of its flower heads has insects visiting throughout the day, mostly hoverflies and small sweat bees. And best of all it was 100% free, grown from seeds collected on local walks. -

I'll spend that time trying to figure out how to convert pain into fuel, and report back if I make a breakthrough discovery. 😅
