Until I saw this fly come and go from this web I had no idea that nursery web spiders' webs are not sticky! It makes sense though as they don't use webs to catch food, they're active hunters and this web is to protect her babies rather than catch passing flies, so there's no need for a sticky web. It was just a real 'uh, I never knew that' moment for me
For the arachnophobes, this video contains no visible spiders, they've all left the nest now

A new resident has turned up in my new pond: a great pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis)
The frogbit that it’s next to was free from a canal towpath found about a week after finishing the pond. It looked like there had been maintenance done not long before I walked there as the verges were freshly and there were 3 clumps of still living frogbit just left out on the path. It was on my pond plant wish list so obviously it was meant to be and they came home with me

When you see some parastitic wasps fly by it's easy to see why people believe they've seen fairies as they do look like tiny fairy beings. Photo 3 was out of focus but I've included it as the purple sheen on its wings is visible. When it flew past the wings shimmered blue-purple against the sun. Beautiful, ethereal beings.

A Dusky Warbler spent 4 days at Filey, North Yorkshire. I was fortunate enough to be able to go see it last Friday.
My first ever time seeing one and for a notoriously skulky bird it couldn’t have shown any better!
