Fascinated by all the bumblebees next to us in the garden on the raspberry canes, and all the different types too, but then I spotted this newcomer (difficult to miss: he's huge): a hornet mimic hoverfly. Rare in the UK before 1940 and still only occasionally seen in the south. Which is where we are. A fabulous sighting.
