  1. Every weekend I look back at the preceding week in Kpop and pick out a music video or performance that have particularly liked. This week I have chosen SEEYA -- Stay.

This old Kpop group is new to me. I enjoyed their singing, was charmed by dancer /choreographer Aiki (is she famous?) combining the elegant and the humorous, and was refreshed by a song unburdened by the unmelodic.

  14. This music video, by GENER8ION - STORM, has popped up a few times on my feed. While it is definitely not my type of music, I can see why the choreography, which states at about 4' 19", is highly rated. It's probably appeals to young men of a certain age and type, but is nonetheless quite masterful. I didn't enjoy much up until then - far too much male testosterone for my liking but the dance section is worth it.

  19. I'm still thinking about why Le Sserafim --Celebration did not land with me.

Is it because I don't like hardstyle?

I went and listened to what are supposed to be some classics of that genre. I didn't hate it, but it's obviously music to dance to rather than sit down and listen to.

I did, however, come across this older Kpop incorporation of hardstyle into a pop song. I think it works really well, although I'm sure serious hardstyle devotees would dismiss it as weak tea:

    A.C.E -- Cactus
    youtu.be/-VYJKjyRjik?si=Kaaq8Q

I'm sure there are thousands more examples, but I was rather taken with this.

Anyway, I wonder if the brevity of "Celebration" leaves listeners like me feeling frustrated, as one is left with a sense of a handful of musical promises never fulfilled. My disliking the MV, the choreography*, and some of the music show styling did not help matters either.

I'm happy to have discovered A.C.E though -- even if it's years after everybody else!

    * Perhaps I should be specify that I do not like the group's choreography. By contrast, I enjoy a lot of the back up dancers' moves.
