First Bolinao visit
Fonts used: Cubao and QuiapoLast month, I was required to do a second RT-PCR test to rule out COVID-19 after recovering from dengue. It was a few days before our ninth year of marriage. Since I can telecommute and have a usable lab result, I made the most of the chance by going with my husband to Pangasinan for a full week where he was staying for work.
Those were my calmest days since the pandemic happened because I was mostly alone in a hotel room where no one needed me to do some chore. Even eating good food was a convenient choice of going to the cafe to enjoy a meal that I won’t be preparing or requesting for it to be delivered to my room instead. An attendant comes by to clean the room daily and I never needed to turn off the air conditioner. It was all basic hotel experience, but that privilege to be lazy is just what I crave once in a while because it is not a usual encounter for me. It was also my break from our little humans who we won’t be able to bring anyway.
On Wednesday, our anniversary, we ordered noodles, dim sum, a pot of tea, and cheesecake for dinner. On Friday, I was on leave, and we moved to Patar to stay by the beach until Sunday.
I had fresh rolls of film to spare so I brought along an analog camera. All images on this update are film scans. I think this is my best batch so far because I got fewer blanks and overexposed shots. ✨

Other places in photos: Saint James the Great Parish, Cape Bolinao Lighthouse, Bolinao FallsThe resorts in the outskirts looked more upscale and had a lot of parked cars so we avoided them to spend less and to distance ourselves from crowds. But as you drive further, the cars get fewer and you get to see more humble accommodations. We picked a place with quaint little huts and got lucky that we were the only guests. We shared the beach only with a few dogs who live in the vicinity; although there’s an exception on low tide as few locals gather to collect seashells.
Our short stay felt like a private getaway. My favorite part was drinking as we casually lounge on the sand, watching the sunset, listening to music, and conversing mostly by singing along to songs. Those were days when it seemed sensible to just be bums and not give a care about anyone else because there was literally no one else to mind. The absence of people can make the nights scary though since it seemed like a perfect opportunity for a psychopath to massacre visitors who can get little to no help. But anyway, we’re safe and I was simply paranoid. 😅

Required if you want to visit tourist spots in the town. You need to pay for 1 pass per person and it can be used to visit all places so always keep it with you.
All cacti I saw in Cape Bolinao Lighthouse had similar markings because some people probably thought it was cool to highlight their presence in this way.

This kind of ignorance, multiplied, is why we are bound to collectively suffer dangerous climate changes. The world does not owe us anything, but we have an obligation to mind the only place where we all can live. Sure, they’re looking at Mars as a second habitable planet, but even if that’s made possible within our lifetime, are you and your loved ones even qualified to be deemed important given the skillset demands of sustaining and growing a start-up humanity on another planet? Or are you rich enough to buy your spot there? ~pffft
