  1. I just found this recipe for Chocolate Soup in a reprint of an 1960ies East German cookbook. I immediately remembered that my mum used to make this for us kids when we were ill or just not feeling well 🤒🥴🍫
It's basically Chocolate Pudding but with more milk. She gave us rusk with it. It might sound a little odd. For me it's perfect 😍

  9. Today is International Happy Gose Day. This traditional craft beer has been brewed for centuries in my home region and is a little special, I have to admit. As salt and coriander are added to the usual beer ingredients, as well. When we drink Gose here in Leipzig, we don't say "Prost" but "Goseanna" 🍻🍻

  10. Making Thuringian Napkin using a recipe from a 1979 East German with the catchy title "Kochen". I really wanted to stick to the recipe and had to stop myself adding pepper and parsley. Loved the outcome and will definitly cook them again that way 😋
Cut stale bread into small pieces and soak in a mix of warm milk, eggs, salt and nutmeg. Roll it in a kitchen towel. Tie the ends tightly and boil it slowly for 45 minutes.

  13. I am stunned by this closed down shop. Through the shop window I could take a glimpse on these vintage tiles, which are clearly damaged but still absolutly beautiful. Can't stop thinking about what this shop used to be. My guess is definitely some kind of grocery shop. Thinking of Milk or Cheese 🤔🥛🧀What's your guess? And can anyone date those tiles? Please, please, please agree with me on early 20th century🙏🏼

  14. Good Morning 😋 I usually start my day with a cheese bun topped with marmelade. Maybe a little odd to others. But I copied it from my mom, when I was a child. She still starts her day with the same breakfast 🧀🍓 Do you have any weird eating habits? And is there a backstory to it? I would love to know😍

  20. The latest treasure in my #cookbook collection 😍📚
"Hungarian seasoning" is the name of this East German cookbook from 1982. The Hungarian original was published in Budapest in 1972. I love the beautiful illustrations by artist Klára Karmaszin.

  21. #OTD Germany 1938:
This is a picture of the destroyed Ez Chaim Synagogue in my home town #Leipzig. It was one of over 1400 synagogues destroyed by the Nazis on the night of 09 to 10 November #1938. The place is now a car park. Not even a decent memorial board remembers. There is still so much to do

  22. @NatalieGBoyd Here is one of my favourite curiosities. This ham is 350 years old. Legend has it that the people of the small German town of #Friesoythe trapped the plague in it. After they succeeded, the plague never came over the town again. The ham is still kept in the town hall today 🥓🥓
