"General Mills just paid a $300 million dividend to investors, bought back $150 million in stock to enrich execs and investors and pays its CEO $16 million. It makes 2.1 billion a year in profit.
It is raising prices on cereals 20% and blaming 'inflation.'"

There's no such thing as 'No UX'.
Ignoring UX doesn't eliminate it; it just shapes it poorly.
Echoing Paul Watzlawick: 'One cannot not communicate.'
Similarly, there's always a user experience, whether crafted or ignored.

Thanks for your excellent article "The #UX design case of closed captions for everyone" @sebastiangreger!
https://sebastiangreger.net/2019/02/ux-closed-captions-for-everybody
Nicely summarizes the many unexpected use cases for #closedcaptions beyond just #hearingimpaired people.
I know your exploration was more qualitative than quantitative, but based on this, would you advocate for captions ON or OFF *by default* for a heterogeneous audience?
Better to have to turn them off each time, or on?

Autolayout in #Figma is great, but it won’t get you the job.
Show your skills, your process and your personality - not just nicely designed UIs on your UX portfolio.

For shits and giggles I just tried switching the application style in #Linux to the old win9x style. But man, look at those *useful signifiers*! Buttons that are OBVIOUS. Windows that have clear EDGES. Scrollbars that are big enough to click, always visible and PROVIDE INFORMATION, helping giving me a ->mental model<- of the content. What the hell has happened to UI design in the past decade? Minimalism destroys #usability.

The W3C web sustainability group has just published their draft guidelines - they hope to move these towards the sort of standard that has been widely accepted for #accessibility. **A really important piece of work which needs our input and support.**

Am I clicking on a link that will open my browser? Maybe it opens the image in a modal window? Who knows? Who cares anymore? Hostility isn't just reserved for publishers on #twitter, but also users.
This is what happens to #UX when you have a sociopath force out all the professionals & then micromanage design choices / #esthetics (sic): https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/x-changing-how-link-previews-presented-stream-could-impact-posting/691459/ -

@Perrin49 @roger 1987 is also the year Citadel/UX (UNIX port of Citadel BBS) was released. It has evolved into "groupware app" adding internet email and a web front end and such but it is still somewhat actively developed to this day (just called Citadel now)
I have hosted my personal email on Citadel for almost 24 years so far

The most important part of designing small is understanding the core goal of the feature or product you’re creating. If your goal is too big or poorly understood, it’s very easy to just continue adding feature after feature because “somebody might want it.” https://www.interaction-design.org/literature/article/designing-the-smallest-possible-thing by Laura #Klein #UX #UXDesign #WebDev #frontEnd #design #deathOfManagement #dev

Yes, #Microsoft #SQLServerManagementStudio #SMSS, I really do want you to focus the cancel button on the log-in dialog whenever I get my password wrong. I just love shift-tabbing 3 times to try again.

We need to talk about UX.
If you turn off slow-mode on the web interface (on chrome), the federated feed is completely unreadable as it jankily scrolls past.
Surely adding content to a feed should never change the scroll position - just the scroll*bar* position.
And when you click the 'new items' button, you're scrolled... *somewhere*, neither at the top of the previously-top post, nor at the top of the feed, nor anywhere particular that I can see.
Why?

How nice, I just noticed that the indicator for which song is playing in the #Apple Music iOS app is now — finally — a real miniature equalizer display. It used to be a stupid repetitive animation and that drove me nuts because the beats did not match to the song. #fixed #UX #detailsmatter #applemusic
Btw. the #Lane8 Spring 2023 mixtape is a gem. https://music.apple.com/de/album/lane-8-spring-2023-mixtape-dj-mix/1674666916

So I just downloaded and installed the latest (2022) revision of something called #xnec2c
This is the evolution of the #ARRL Antenna Design/Simulation/Optimization software. The original was in fortran; this revision is in C and runs well with X on a linux desktop.
What a frigging mess, from an interface perspective. The documentation could use a bit of work as well.
Not to be terribly critical, just making this observation as a first impression.
This piece of work may have a long and storied history, and it may be taking on the patina of age; but one sure way to let your technology slide off into obscurity is to put your tools on a shelf and worship them instead of using and improving them over time.
Lets do a python version, with a proper modern UX, some help that does more than simply describe the software, but rather works as a living reference with a few simple wizards for the novice.
