  1. As someone new to #mastodon, love seeing #collections rolling out. I’ve used starter packs (very similar) on Bluesky and they’re super helpful for new folks. Really jumpstarts finding your community.

Shout out to the folks at the Mastadon Social server. Looking forward to trying it. #mastodonfeatures

  3. So I spent a lot of time writing a post...which I think was kinda irrelevant but I wrote it due to me being excited with a Mastodon feature.

This can be seen in this screenshot I'm adding here:

Not a complaint comment: It would make more sense to me if the Fedi users showing up were mutual follows...just saying! No judgement!

  4. Was checking the news!

Quote Posts...I hope it will turn out okay as long as I can choose what I quote...

"You will be able to choose whether your posts can be quoted at all."
    😍

"You will be notified when someone quotes you."

"You will be able to withdraw your post from the quoted context at any time."

  5. Looking for a solution to filter out AI-generated images on Mastodon. Any suggestions?

  6. I'm not going to lie: automatically expiring mutes are how I've managed to keep several people in my feed.

Don't get me wrong, I like reading what these people post. Most of the time. But sometimes they overwhelm my timeline, and I need a break. The ability to mute these accounts for a couple hours is why I can keep them around. If I couldn't do that I'd have to drop them.

    Great feature!

  7. @TechConnectify Never realized that this was a thing either. It's been turned on for me as well on the birdsite without ever noticing.

I guess it is what usually hides responses and you have to click "Show more replies" in order to display all of them.

Mastodon should definitely develop something similar that can be opted into in order to handle very large followings.

All this reminded me of this GIF video. Prime example of what one wants to avoid:

  8. I just realized #mastodon lacks the option to get notified when somebody uses a certain #hashtag. Especially for less frequently used tags it would be a good thing to be notified when something happens. #mastodonfeedback #mastodonfeatures #allheimen @Gargron @apps

  9. Oh, if I got this right there's a "detected" option on the language picker for each toot but you cannot select this as the default setting? 🥲

Damn... Is there a ticket for this #feature in the issue tracker at least?

  10. Killer or at least essential feature to speed the #twittermigration #twitterexodus: a tweet import feature so that one could bring in their historical date-accurate archive into your Mastodon history. (This also applies to be able to transfer posts from one instance to another when migrating)
    #Mastodon #MastodonFeatures #FeatureRequest

  11. It would be nice to have an option to re-order the pinned posts in my profile without having to unpin them all and re-pin them in the order I want

    #MastodonFeatures

  12. Okay, so just saying theoretically you could use your Mastodon instance as free cloud storage for photos and Video. There's no way this would be ethical but it is probably possible #mastodonfeatures #Mastodon #mastodonservers

  13. @futurebird

There are so many good ideas in this thread! I'd love to have a functionality to do that. Maybe call them #SmartLists or something to get away with the negative connotations of the algorithm.

I'd love to be able to set up all kinds of automated sorting lists, maybe using #RegEx to create a bunch of different experiences I can dip into based on my mood

  14. @HilliTech I reply and boost but having one function that does both would definitely be welcome.

Is there a way to reverse the "Load more" function? Right now I scroll to the top of my feed and go downwards to read all the toots until I find the "Load more" option. Is there a way for this function to be changed by returning to the feed position from last time, scrolling up and drag+pull the feed to load the unread posts? I believe Reddit and #Twitter do it that way but it's reversed here.

Would appreciate some feedback. (I don't always notice that button and it's easy to scroll past - especially if it takes pressing it multiple times to see all the toots I missed since last time. Reversing the order would feel more natural)

  16. Though I've got it figured out (I think), I sure wish it was somehow easier to follow accounts on other instances. I think that's one of the big learning curve issues that's putting off new folks to the Fediverse, and part of why lots of people are apparently joining then running back to Twitter. Anything we can do to ease their transition at this point is good.

We need to talk about UX.

If you turn off slow-mode on the web interface (on chrome), the federated feed is completely unreadable as it jankily scrolls past.

Surely adding content to a feed should never change the scroll position - just the scroll*bar* position.

And when you click the 'new items' button, you're scrolled... *somewhere*, neither at the top of the previously-top post, nor at the top of the feed, nor anywhere particular that I can see.

    Why?

  18. @KimCrayton1

I see that people have talked about how to currently do quote retweets in different mobile device apps.

    You probably know how already.

I posted an example of how to currently do a quote retweet or quote post in the web UI here:

  20. @Nora1Can @seanm4c @jigbean @Sheril

+1 on what @seanm4c and @Nora1Can said. Its a great tool that can be used for good too! I typically use it to let my followers know why they should check out something or add more context/info.

I typed up an example of a quote post and how it can be done now, no need to wait for the added feature. Via my techie account @[email protected] :

  21. +1 Would be very nice to have a button/link to do a quote post

➡️ Eugen said he would revisit this
➡️ +1 incl. count of quote posts in meta

➡️ This post is a quote post example. Do this in Web UI:
    - For the post u want to quote, click (...) menu, click "Copy link to post"
    - Click Publish & add comment & paste link
    - Add @ mention to let them know you quoted them!
    - Add hashtags

  22. @bastow Hard pass. We're here because we want to escape curated popularity contests and other algorithmic features. Funny/ popular posts get numbers/ reblogs so you're more likely to see them in your feed anyway. But a reverse chronology option would be useful I agree. #mastodonfeatures
