  1. So, I've been transfering my passwords manually to #KeepassXC for the past two days now, and during the process, I'm also changing my passwords and emails; and not transferring dead services. (As well as deleting them once transfered.)

I originally used #Keepass (the original), then #KeepassX. My #Android client of choice was #Keepass2Android. It worked pretty well together at that time, until the upgrade of the keepass database and Android, things started to get messy.

It was when I moved to #LastPass. After that service experienced a major(?) brand shake up, I moved to another service, this time with #e2ee (end-to-end #encryption).

Today, I'm going back to keepass because things are running smoothly again, especially with the Android integration. Both Keepass2Android and #KeepassDX have full support of KeepassXC and the latest features.

I just can't decide between Keepass2Android and KeepassDX. Regardless, I like them both combined with KeepassXC. The way I want things to be.

  3. A poorly researched idea for a distributed, manually curated search engine/index:

    This idea is focused on
Postmarks for now as it's a federated bookmark manager.

    Phase 1:
    1. Create a meta search for Postmarks instances. This means we delegate search to the individual Postmarks instances.

    Phase 2:
    1. Fork Postmarks. (We can always merge back in)
    2. Implement a crawler to allow Postmarks instances to individually index a bookmarked site, page. The data would be stored on their servers. So they should have control over what gets indexed.
    3. Improve Postmarks search functionality to include indexed data
    4. Use the previously made meta search engine

  4. Turn text into an #image.

Manually or automatically draw lines, rectangles, and #cats (!) on the image using #javascript.

Cats are created using #SketchRNN in #ML5.

"Tear" the image into two, save as files, combine them later.

Allows import of an image file (photo or anything).

    But why?????
    Just because.
    To learn.

To have the computer draw cat doodles all by itself.

Resists optical character recognition (#OCR using #Tesseract).

  6. @dlehman straight X and Y would be the MVP - it's trivial to do manually but that would enable non-3D-modelers to use the system. Creating a shape from a low-res PNG would be next. The big one though would be auto segmenting base pieces for larger mosaics, and shaving them down to fit together - there's too much material (#frek!) for them to tile as-is, but snipping 0.2mm off the mating surfaces lets them tile seamlessly. #3dprinting

  7. this is taking way too long

i should probably just bite the bullet and manually download #osm.pbf files from #bbbike, instead of getting the smallest extent matching a #gtfs feed from #geofabrik and then cropping it down with #osmosis

i was just trying to avoid having to manually match up osm files and gtfs feeds for each of my case studies. just wanted to be let the script figure it out based on the gtfs stop locations...

  8. Um, has anyone ever bothered manually converting a decently large paper pattern into digital?

Was it worth the time you saved during actual stitching?

Because it seemed like a really good idea to give myself a Pattern Keeper version of Errol, but this much took me half an hour, so maybe not...

  16. "Discovering Attention-Based Genetic Algorithms via Meta-Black-Box Optimization."

Software 2.0 - Move from manually-written algorithms to learning algorithms..

The idea is to evolve algorithms that are better in search thanks to hyper-parameter optimization.

Featurize => Cross-Attention (with layer skipping) => Select; in order to get rules as to whether a child would replace the parents or now; then perform mutation adaptation to optimize the sampling.

I did the third one right now, which only took a few minutes. But I'm going to bed now and hope this headache disappears soon. 😩

  24. Interesting study on COVID contact tracing, manually, or via apps. In NL, merely 2% of the PCR tests were done after a notification originating from the Dutch tracing app (CoronaMelder), and just 2.5% after being traced manually.

The study concludes that contact tracing, digitally or manually, had little effect (“limited impacts”).

  29. Freshened up my personal site henrik.nyh.se a bit and rewrote it from manually crafted HTML to static-generated via #Middleman.

I love Middleman! I use it for hond.ae as well and it manages to be simple, flexible and powerful all at the same time. And it’s Ruby. Thank you, @tdreyno!
