🇹🇷🚍 MAN Truck & Bus has begun series production of its fully electric Lion’s City E buses at its plant in #Ankara, marking a further step in its shift to zero-emission #transport. The #Turkish site becomes the company’s third e-bus production hub, alongside plants in Poland and South Africa.
The move supports growing demand for electric buses and strengthens MAN’s global production network. The Ankara facility has been upgraded in recent years to support electric mobility, with plans to also build electric intercity and coach models.
Since launch, around 3,300 Lion’s City E #buses have been delivered across Europe, covering 250 million kilometres and cutting an estimated 150,000 tonnes of CO2 compared with diesel vehicles. MAN says expanding its electric range is central to its long-term strategy for sustainable transport.

Alstom has delivered the first two of eight new #Metropolis #trains for the Santo Domingo Metro Line 2 extension, which will connect María Montez station to Los Alcarrizos. 🌃🚆🛫 Great Western Railway (GWR) will trial overnight services to #Gatwick #Airport from 6 June, running for 12 weeks to test demand for early-morning and late-night connections between the Thames Valley and the airport. 🇷🇸 Alstom has secured a €915 million contract to deliver Belgrade’s first fully automated #metro, marking a major step in the #Serbian capital’s #transport development. 🐝 Work has begun on a new travel hub in Tyldesley to support Greater Manchester’s Bee Network. The scheme will triple park-and-ride capacity at the Astley Street stop on the Leigh Guided #Busway, adding 99 parking spaces along with EV chargers, cycle storage, parcel lockers, improved lighting and CCTV. A staff office will also increase on-site presence. The project follows rising demand, including a 13.8% annual increase in passengers since 2023 and the introduction of night buses. The busway has cut car journeys by over 600,000 a year since 2017. The hub aims to ease town centre parking pressures and encourage public #transport use. Work starts on 30 March and is due to finish in October, with no disruption to services.

The #Transport Secretary has instructed #HS2 Ltd to explore ways to cut costs and speed up delivery, as part of a wider reset of the project following years of mismanagement. Options under review include reducing maximum train speeds from the planned 360km/h to 300–320km/h, aligning with established international systems and avoiding costly testing delays. The changes are expected to have minimal impact on journey times while enabling earlier passenger services and saving taxpayers billions. HS2 CEO Mark Wild will report back in the summer with updated plans. The project currently supports around 30,000 jobs and is forecast to add £20 billion to the economy, alongside major progress on tunnels, stations and infrastructure completed ahead of schedule.

Temporary alterations to services to Ardrossan Harbour, Largs, Dumfries/Carlisle, and Stranraer will end. 🚆 Alstom has secured £330 million (€380m) in long-term contracts with #ScotRail and Beacon to maintain and refurbish the Class 222 fleet. The 10-year agreement, worth £250m, covers technical support and spares supply for 22 trains, running to 2036 with an option to 2042. 🇬🇧 Nine places have been longlisted for #UK #City of #Culture 2029: #Blackpool, Inverness-Highland, Ipswich, #Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, #Portsmouth, #Sheffield, #Swindon and Wrexham. Each will receive £60,000 to develop their full bids, with the winner set to receive £10 million to deliver a year-long cultural programme. The announcement coincides with over 230 towns registering interest in the inaugural UK Town of Culture competition, open to applications until 31 March 2026. 🏴 #ScotRail is resuming services from #Glasgow Central high level from Wednesday, 18 March, following a partial reopening of the station after a fire on Union Street. Platforms seven to 15 on the west side will be accessible. Due to limited platforms and entry/exit points, not all usual routes will operate. Customers will use an entrance on Hope Street. Low level services, which resumed earlier, will continue as normal. Safety checks by Network Rail and Glasgow City Council have been completed, with an exclusion zone in place due to ongoing demolition. Sunday services would see the biggest change, running 06:30–23:30—starting 3.5 hours earlier and finishing 5.5 hours later than the current timetable.
SPT states this responds to long-standing demand for better Sunday connectivity. The plan accounts for maintenance and staffing, with union discussions underway regarding revised shifts for station, driving, and engineering teams.
