The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Board on 13 March 2026 considered a Full Business Case to procure around 24 battery-electric articulated “tram-like” #buses and charging infrastructure for the Sprint bus rapid #transit scheme. The project, part of a wider vision for improved public #transport, would operate along the A34 and A45 corridors linking #Walsall, #Birmingham and #Solihull. The report recommends approving £25.96m in funding, combining CRSTS and Department for Transport ZEBRA grants, and delegating contract authority. The preferred option offers strong strategic fit and value for money, with a positive benefit-cost ratio, improved accessibility, reduced emissions and faster journeys. Further work is required on the ticketing model. Sprint is expected to launch with franchised bus services from October 2027.

Finally got round to having a look at the Tudor Grange cycle circuit in Solihull.

It's a 1km twisty circuit of decent enough tarmac. Not flat, but not stupidly hilly either. Risk of leaf chutney on the lower loop in autumn. Not a track for fast velomobiles and streamliners, but fine on an unfaired bike, and I expect it's decent fun on an unfaired trike or pedal car.

But, as is depressingly common for these things, it's in a public park without so much as a fence, and what little signage there is is of the "share with care" persuasion. So you get oblivious people walking 5-abreast, kicking footballs or emptying their dogs on it. Which means it's effectively useless for anything more than basic cycling skills sessions and lower-intensity training. Wasted opportunity! #cycling #racing #track #Solihull
