#BoxyBSD chat is now also available in #irc!
People asked for old school possibilities to take part on the BoxyBSD chat and here we go! Finally, you can also simply join #BoxyBSD on Libera (next to your #FreeBSD channels)! This bridge was written by @gyptazy to support additional chat communications.
Important: This IRC channel is bridged between #Discord and #Matrix to have a unified communications flow without splitting the community. If you don't like Discord, please don't join this channel!

Gentoo**
Gentoo**
RuTracker.org**
SearX, YaCy, Whoogle
Peer-to-Peer Search Engines: Opportunities and Challenges (ACM Digital Library)
**3. Gentoo
GURU overlay –

Hey all,
I think I mentioned before about resurrecting the hikari wayland compositor (https://hikari.acmelabs.space) which seems not to be in active development.
What I've done is spent quite a bit of time upgrading hikari from wlroots-0.15 -> wlroots-0.19.2
The efforts of this can be seen on this branch:
https://codeberg.org/thomasadam/hikari
On the `ta/wlroots-0.19` branch (the default branch for now in this repo).
If you'd like to use #got, see:
https://thomas.gothub.org/repos/?action=summary&path=hikari.git
This will be kept in sync with codeberg.
I think seems seem mostly working. Testing welcome though!
In addition to upgrading the wlroots version, I've also added the option to use #meson instead of #bmake
Any problems, file an issue on the repo, or speak to me directly.
Unofficially for now, I'm also lurking in the IRC #hikari channel on libera.chat, if that's more convenient.

Freenode Commits Suicide - Evacuations Underway - Breaking News!
[**PLEASE BOOST**]
A few hours ago, under the direct intervention of the Crown Prince Andrew Lee of South Korea, beginning with about 700 IRC channells, Freenode staff began hijacking and purgings all channels that had mention of "Libera" in their channel topic.
https://www.devever.net/~hl/freenode_abuse2
More details in a minute, but first, just a short list of the sort of channels that have been seized by Mr. Lee in what can only be described a suicidal and vindictive usurpation of some of the most prominent names in the world of computer software:
#wikipedia
#intel
#python
#ubuntu
#rust
##linux
#openbsd
# fosdem
#clearlinux
The Gentoo channels, Haskel, Weechat, etc., etc., ad nauseum...
Basically, the pillars of the software world, Linux, C, major Fortune 500 companies - you name it. POOF!
Earlier articles on the subjects of what has been widely characterized and regarded as a hostile takeover of freenode in the Media were published here over the course of the past few days and fortunately, our registered projects with freenode and Libera were previously announced as having been secured as well.
Only one of our channels has been affected, because the second wave of hijacking was administered by what we can only presume to be a misbehaving, poorly configured bot, in that it seized ownership of channels that merely had mentions of the string "Libera" or "Libera.Chat" by anyone in the channels.
We received the following **Apology** from Andrew Lee with this statement, at 21:15:30hrs PST, posted directly in one of our channels affected by this second wave of hijackings:
<snip>
-rasengan- [Global Notice] In the recent policy enforcement, some channels were erroneously included. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact us in #freenode-services or [email protected]. Thanks for your patience and choosing freenode!
</snip>
To that we say, Fuck you freenode, and Fuck you very much Andrew Lee - go eat a fucking dick you punk ass bitch!
By tomorrow, the usual news media outlets will have published freenode's Obituary.
I'm going to post more discussion links to follow below, but suffice it to say that the Earth is indeed flat for freenode, and that ship has sailed over the edge into the abyss.
In the meantime, we urge everyone who has long standing friendships and associations with others still there to find them, and let them know where you'll be following the vacuum left after this implosion.

@NWengrov Which one? The IRC link?
"ircs" is a provisional IANA URI scheme. (read https://www.iana.org/assignments/uri-schemes/prov/ircs and more here https://www.iana.org/assignments/uri-schemes/uri-schemes.xhtml).
It is recognised by my Mozilla Firefox web browser as a link to the #systemcrafters channel on the Libera Chat IRC network. More information on Libera Chat on https://libera.chat/ and about Systemcrafters channel here https://systemcrafters.net/community/#chat-with-us.

Is this really the end of HexChat?
"Developers All Hands On Deck"
There are not that many irc clients, although the Protocol for real-time Internet chat and messaging is extremely popular in the free open software community and there are an infinite number of users and developers on all kinds of topics exchanged in the channels.
What a great and moving moment it was, after which the freenode server was corrupted by the selfishness of one person and the "former" staff not only issued a warning, but also libera.chat was founded! In no time at all, all channels of the free software scene migrated from freenode to Libera.chat, a few, such as #kali-linux, migrated to the oftc or others, but then let themselves be represented via channel bots on libera.chat to keep the connection.. And it was kept! And the connections are still in place!
From my point of view, this great movement is the most beautiful example of unity among the free-thinking FOSS, FLOSS, FSF people ever!Internet Relay Chat protocol is more alive than ever and that's why projects like Hexchat can't die!
The alternatives I can think of would be Weechat and irssi (commandline).
Or ChatZilla in the browser (Seamonkey).. unfortunately, I personally can't think of many more possibilities right now.

@Mrfunkedude ok so here's a random idea.
I recently got back into #IRC (the OG realtime chat platform.. also distributed/federated before it was c00l). I've started #lurking - for no other reason than to make lUrk Great again - in channel ##fediverse.lounge on Libera.Chat (network). We could start pushing that as casual n00b friendly Help You OUt Zone.
Don't even need to install anything: https://libera.chat/guides/clients#connecting-without-installing-anything
Yeah, it could be a matrix room I guess, I just don't know it as well.

@nik SuSE is driving towards slop addiction anyway. Better for kids to experiment with Gentoo or NetBSD, or maybe projects that maintain a good track record without having a strong no-slop policy like FreeBSD, Slackware, OpenBSD, Debian, etc. (Although if they get into Slackware, keep them away from IRC, or at least Libera. ##slackware on Libera.chat today is like #freebsd on Freenode was a decade ago, in some respects, and maybe worse in others.)
Having been a young hacker in the early 80s, I can lend you some comfort. People can and will become lifelong free software advocates and contributors without a community, and this includes community driven by a corporate project.
Also, look at it this way: If OpenSuSE wants to drive themselves to extinction, what better way than erasing their mindshare amongst the young?
All that aside, I'm not at all against people telling them how foolish this move is.

There's still a tonne of things to do before I even consider a release -- and no doubt there's a shed load of bugs, etc.
So if you're interested in using a wayland window manager that looks like it's stuck in the early 90s, give this thing a go.
An IRC channel exists on libera.chat -- #cow-wayland if you want to come and say "hello".
Any issues... err, chuck an issue on Codeberg, please. Note that I won't be providing any mirrors of this on GH. Codeberg is where this project is officially hosted.
