  1. Intel has announced the end of Clear Linux OS, its high-performance Linux distribution. Effective immediately, there will be no more updates or security patches. Users are advised to switch to other actively maintained distributions. Clear Linux was known for its speed and optimizations, often topping performance benchmarks. #Linux #Intel #TechNews #ClearLinux 𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗽𝘀://𝘄𝘄𝘄.𝗼𝗺𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘅.𝗰𝗼𝗺/𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹-𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘅-𝗼𝘀-𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱/

  3. Final Benchmarks Of #ClearLinux On Intel: ~48% Faster Than #Ubuntu Out-Of-The-Box
Even when changing Ubuntu 25.04 from its defaults to using the "performance" governor that is common for #Linux #servers, Clear Linux was still 16% faster than Ubuntu 25.04 with the performance governor.
For the two Intel Xeon Max 9468 Sapphire Rapids processors, the Clear Linux power consumption was very close to Ubuntu 25.04 with the performance governor.

  8. Lilbits: Hello Google Pixel 10, Goodbye Clear Linux, and Kobo adds Instapaper integration

Mozilla recently pulled the plug on bookmarking/read-it-later service Pocket. And that’s left some folks scrambling to find alternatives – including folks that were using devices with baked-in support for Pocket, like Kobo eReaders. Now Kobo has announced it’s bringing Instapaper integration to its devices – and since Instapaper makes it easy to migrate your data from Pocket, it should be a […]

Künftig will das Unternehmen andere Open-Source-Projekte weiterhin unterstützen.

  12. Damn. I 'member #ClearLinux. It was one of the first distributions to use boot shim. At the time it was comparatively faster than grub.

And as Nik says, it's a rugpull. This is something you'd want forecast at least a year or two beforehand.

It just goes to show, if you don't choose a community based #Linux distribution - whereby the maintainers are apart of an organization - you might catch a sunset.

#Debian, #Fedora, #Mint. Those are my picks for migrators.

  15. Just a reminder to why corporate GNU/Linux distros are a bad idea. This is an older video by @jay that I still think is very relevant. We should always support FOSS, especially community made distros. Corporate decisions, like Red Hat's shift with CentOS Stream, often demonstrate how business priorities can compromise open-source principles and community autonomy. That is why I won't use Ubuntu, Fedora, Pop_OS!, Tuxedo OS, or any other corporate backed distro. Now, Intel is just ending Clear Linux OS, further highlighting this vulnerability.

  16. Intel is ending development of Clear Linux after ten years. The GNU/Linux distro was optimized for x86_64 chips and had a reputation for being super speedy. But it seems to be a victim of budget cuts and will no longer receive any updates (including security patches). phoronix.com/news/Intel-Ends-C

  17. #Intel has quietly pulled the plug on #ClearLinux #OS, officially ending support for the once-promising #Linux distribution that it had backed for nearly a decade. Effective immediately, the company says it will no longer provide any updates, #security patches, or maintenance for the operating system. In a final blow, the Clear Linux OS #GitHub repository is now archived in read-only mode

  18. Intel quits Clear Linux (their inhouse distro) | Contributing upstream code continues for Linux the kernel 🐧 💥

◉Not a tragedy to quit it
◉ ...More resources freed @ Intel to contribute to Linux
◉Intel doesn't really need their own distribution
◉AMD doesn't have an own distro yet contributes upstream to the kernel / other software
◉Slightly sad Intel shut Clear Linux down - but it never really took off (?) in wider sense

  19. #Intel's #ClearLinux Demonstrates Software Optimization Benefits On #AMD #EPYC 9005 Series
Clear #Linux easily took top spot. Clear was 6% faster than Ubuntu 25.04, which was running with the "performance" governor like the rest. Or compared to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the in-house Intel distribution was 23% faster. Ubuntu and other Linux distributions continue moving performance in right direction but Intel's Clear continues to deliver the fastest out-of-the-box x86_64 Linux.

  20. Is anyone actually using #clearlinux? Dunno why it seems like an attractive distro to me when every time I use it, it seems to be lacking.

  21. Looks like is a no go. After multiple attempts, the install gets stuck up on the systemd-journald line.

Welp, on to another distro that I have missed using….. what ever will it be?

  22. I attempted to install in my AMD based pc, but it would not boot after install. The live session worked but not on bare metal.

I did try out for a hot second . It was neat but I wanted to stay with for ease of accessing my other drives on the system.

Currently I am up and running . It’s interesting. For app installation it is either or source, adding other methods can brick the system from what I have read.

  23. Here is the list of OSs that I have attempted to install (with a DE) on my Intel and have failed thus far (not in an particular order):
    1) (will try again)
    2)
    3)
    4)
    5)
    6)
    7)
    8)

*edit* I did successfully install but I did not find it to be fun to play with.

  24. :clearlinux: was a bust; it got stuck on some SystemD thing.

Tried again, but it was super buggy with installation.

Now I am trying . Hopefully this one works 🤞

  25. Wow. I find this scrying back to 26 May 2021

I scry, with my little eye..

Enjoy the stroll down memory lane, but a dark day it was

Freenode Commits Suicide - Evacuations Underway - Breaking News!

    [**PLEASE BOOST**]

A few hours ago, under the direct intervention of the Crown Prince Andrew Lee of South Korea, beginning with about 700 IRC channells, Freenode staff began hijacking and purgings all channels that had mention of "Libera" in their channel topic.

    https://www.devever.net/~hl/freenode_abuse2

More details in a minute, but first, just a short list of the sort of channels that have been seized by Mr. Lee in what can only be described a suicidal and vindictive usurpation of some of the most prominent names in the world of computer software:

    #wikipedia

    #intel

    #python

    #ubuntu

    #rust

    ##linux

    #openbsd

    # fosdem

    #clearlinux

The Gentoo channels,   Haskel, Weechat, etc., etc., ad nauseum...

Basically, the pillars of the software world, Linux, C, major Fortune 500 companies - you name it. POOF!

Earlier articles on the subjects of what has been widely characterized and regarded as a hostile takeover of freenode in the Media were published here over the course of the past few days and fortunately, our registered projects with freenode and Libera were previously announced as having been secured as well.

Only one of our channels has been affected, because the second wave of hijacking was administered by what we can only presume to be a misbehaving, poorly configured bot, in that it seized ownership of channels that merely had mentions of the string "Libera" or "Libera.Chat" by anyone in the channels.

We received the following **Apology** from Andrew Lee with this statement, at 21:15:30hrs PST, posted directly in one of our channels affected by this second wave of hijackings:

    <snip>
-rasengan- [Global Notice] In the recent policy enforcement, some channels were erroneously included. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact us in #freenode-services or [email protected]. Thanks for your patience and choosing freenode!
    </snip>

To that we say, Fuck you freenode, and Fuck you very much Andrew Lee - go eat a fucking dick you punk ass bitch!

By tomorrow, the usual news media outlets will have published freenode's Obituary.

I'm going to post more  discussion links to  follow below, but suffice it to say that the Earth is indeed flat for freenode, and that ship has sailed over the  edge into the abyss.

In the meantime, we urge everyone who has long standing friendships and  associations with others still there to find them, and let them know where you'll be following the vacuum left after this implosion.
