#Inoreader — хорошая RSS-читалка, но с лимитом на полторы сотни вроде каналов, и большинство дополнительных функций платные¹, в том числе и фильтрация ленты :-( Т.е. если есть какие-то каналы, которые хочется исключить из общей ленты и читать отдельно — то НЕТ ПУТИ! Но можно сделать. Открываем «Инспектор» (так в лисице называется), ищем атрибут data-fid, прописываем в CSS Override (или другом аддоне):

div[data-fid="123456789"] { 
    display: none !important;
}

Можно было бы, конечно, оформить и в виде юзерскрипта, но и так работает.

@jacobscharmberg SP305590 from www.subtel.de ; they delivered reasonably fast in Germany. Also happy to see #instapaper replaced #pocket functionality in Kobos. There's also the #koreader functionality I haven't installed yet.

Found out today that #Raindrop is adding an #LLM from #OpenAI that can read your bookmarks :/

As a result, I'll probably be migrating off of it and onto something else (maybe #Instapaper ?)

Until then, I found you can turn off the AI under Settings -> App -> Ask AI

So I had a ton of articles pending to read in getpocket and never exported them out, sadly I lost them. I was looking for native replacements for my Kindle Fire 8 since it had a native pocket app and there was none. Amazon app store is mediocre so I ended up installing the Google Play Store and installed #Instapaper. So far, so good!

You'd think me, being a software engineer would be thrilled to be tinkering with my devices but far from it; nowadays I just want things to work.

I'm also exploring per-highlight block identifiers, which Obsidian uses to cross-link to specific blocks within notes.

These also give us an unambiguous way to detect existing (sync'ed) highlights within a note. I was previously relying on embedded hyperlinks for that.

Well. Weeks/months after the total shutdown of #pocket, and migrating to other services, I notice that I don't consume my reading list anymore.

I've switched to #raindrop but it's not a read later tool. #instapaper could be, but apart from Kobo integration, it's not super usable tbh.

Part of this is me missing my own #inmypocket addon, but also imperfect alternatives. Not sure what I'll do next. Reboot the addon? Start yet another service? Contribute to open-source and self-host? 🤷‍♂️

While I was not looking Mozilla has killed Pocket (aka. "read later") without having sent me a notice and now my data is gone (not that I had a lot).

Since Pocket was one of the main reasons I bought a Kobo ebook reader this spring, I'm somewhat annoyed.

But Kobo replaced Pocket with Instapaper, where I apparently even have an account I have not used since 2012 :D

Whoa, my #Kobo eBook reader was offline for so long, I've missed some quality of life updates. Progress bar, dark mode (I believe this is new), and they've replaced #Pocket with #Instapaper. And - the update didn't ruin the sideloaded hyphenation for Bulgarian books niiice 🫠

i already live somewhere between these two worlds. i have three ipads, and i love every one of them. the mini – not the latest version – is my pocket #ipad. perfect for evenings, checking #rss feeds, #reading on #instapaper, sometimes even #writing short #blog posts.

the eleven-inch pro (with m2) is my travel #ipad – i’m actually #writing this post on it right now. it’s also my #imac companion, my everything-device when i’m away. if i had to choose just one, this would probably be the one. it’s perfect.

and then there’s the air – the 13-inch one. oh my god, i love this device. i love working with it in cafes, love #writing on it at #home, listening to #podcasts in the #morning while i make #coffee – even though its speakers are worse than the pro’s.

each #ipad has its own place in my #life. i love them all.

but the minimalistic me says it’s too much.

and i know i’ll have to let one go someday. i just don’t know which one. it’s going to be hard.

so please, #apple – make that foldable #ipad next year.

So I looked at alternatives, Kobo decided to provide support for #instapaper. I didn't want to use proprietary service for my bookmarks. #koreader supported some selhostable open source services like #wallbag and #readeck. So I installed #koreader and deployed a #readeck instance, configured the OPDS catalog to #koereader and it seems wonderful! I can enjoy reading my catalog on a good #ereader. 🥳

I am sure their backend guys hate me for the number of articles I saved… My premium subscription is every penny worth. Together with #DEVONthink, Instapaper is my brain dump.

Just a quick FYI to Kobo ereader users, there is an August firmware update to add in the new Instapaper integration that is having mixed results (including hard bricking) on various Kobo devices. My Libra 2 was luckily recoverable with a factory default but battery life seems weird. The update should be paused for new syncs but just in case you have something like a cached pending firmware update, it might be best to cancel it for now and not apply it.

In an age of constant obsolescence, it's impressive to see that my second-hand Kobo Aura eReader (released in 2013, bought in 2015) is still receiving vital software updates.
The latest one, for example, offers an almost seamless transition from now defunct Pocket to Instapaper via QR-Code.

I'm once again looking for a read-it-later/article archive tool. I think I've tried them all by now and I'm amazed that for such a basic task there's no good solution. I think my demands are very reasonable:

– article content extraction (not just bookmarks) and comfortable reader
– full text search over the entire archive
– website and Android app with synchronization between them
– not a whole lot of random unrelated features like todo lists or whatever thrown in for no reason

I was using Pocket for many years and even paid for the "premium" (which basically got me a few extra fonts because the "premium" features like tag suggestions didn't work), however Pocket got worse and worse at article extraction, to the point where it just opened to website instead of showing the extracted text for more than half of the saved articles. Also no one seems to actively work on it it seems. Pretty much the same problems with Instapaper. I tried Feedly and Inoreader which kinda works I guess but they're primarily RSS readers, which I don't need. raindrop.io does extract article texts but shows them only in the Android app, in a browser it'll still open the website, also the full text search doesn't work reliability. Then there's Wallabag but that seems very Alpha and I don't want to host the service myself. Tried a bunch more which I can't remember right now.

As a temporary solution I'm now saving articles to @notesnook since I'm using that for notes anyway. Article extraction works alright but there's no way to archive notes, so it's all cluttered with articles now and I can barely find my own notes anymore.

If anyone knows of a tool that reliably does all the things mentioned above, please let me know!
