  1. I've been thinking about code and quality of, for quite some time. Compilers should not be a crutch for bad coders but a tool for good ones. I fear we are treating the symptom not the disease.

I have applauded the efforts of OpenBSD in the past, still all of us can and must do better.

  11. @jpmens

I recently wrote jdebp.info/FGA/original-vi.htm and was thinking of doing something like this, to augment it; because Sven Guckes's list (guckes.net/vi/clones.html) is definitely dated and incomplete, nowadays.

It does not have #NeoVIM (for obvious reasons). Most lists of clones miss that there are several forks of Bostic #nvi, not least the two forks that are in #FreeBSD and #NetBSD base. Similarly, #DragonFlyBSD has forked nvi2.

  16. @lienrag That's what I had been led to believe.

Rebooting into single-user didn't fix it - at least with Linux 7.0.1.

Fuck this. I'm going to pave this database server over with #DragonflyBSD - it couldn't feel any less experimental?

  21. Have you registered for BSDCan yet? I finally got around to it myself a day or so ago ;) I really like to chat with Open/Net etc. BSD folks as well as Free since I'm a BSD Agnostic!

Full disclosure yes I am on the Committee but don't hold it against me.

  26. Announcing the BSD Cafe Billboard

Today, we're introducing three things. The first one is a forum. A real forum - with categories, threads, and actual conversations that don't disappear in a timeline after six minutes. The second is a Fediverse platform. Fully federated, ActivityPub-native. Your posts go out, the world's posts come in. No walled gardens, no algorithms, no tricks. The third is a Bar. A place to sit down, talk to strangers who happen to care about the same weird things you do, and stay as long as you […]

  36. I’m Just the Barista

The spirit of the BSD Cafe is to try to create a serene, open, friendly, positive, and welcoming environment for all who want to be a part of it. I am just the Barista. I can't solve the world's problems, but I can try to keep the counter clean, keep the machines running, serve a good BSD coffee, and ensure that, at least here, friends can find a moment of peace and constructive sharing. We need more bars and fewer shopping malls.

    • source start

    println("random bytes 你好! 안녕하세요")

    • EOF

    ===== Explanation of bytes =====

    • 你好 = Nǐ hǎo (Mandarin)
    • 안녕하세요 = annyeonghaseyo (Korean)
    • jl = Julia (programming) language

Z = EOF (end of file)

    Note1
Sources like this are simple to write. Whether you run any of the BSD families of OS, any Linux flavour based on Debian rpm src c and more (even one of the Closed Source OS) you can write code in goLang
All you need in the super basics is vi sh and common logic
    I use

    vim.motif
    bash [80x25]

running on a ARM architecture SBC Pi5

    Note2
In case you don't see the Korean fonts rendered properly, you need to install the locale for that language. This is an example for debian Linux distros

    sudo apt-get install language-pack-ko
    sudo apt-get install korean*
    sudo apt-get install fonts-arphic-ukai fonts-arphic-uming fonts-ipafont-mincho fonts-ipafont-gothic fonts-unfonts-core

For SBC Raspberry Pi5 the sequence is different. Please use pi-packages for an easy way to choose Korean fonts and localE
