  1. Por lo visto han añadido #Hurd a esta lista: Free/Open Source Software choosing to use and/or support #LLM usage/AI, as well as alternatives and tips to requesting better policies or forking. codeberg.org/small-hack/open-s

Linux por descontado ya estaba incluido.

  2. #GNU/ #Hurd ha tenido algo de movimiento estos últimos tiempos.

Hello! Welcome to a new qoth. This qoth covers new and interesting GNU/Hurd developments in Q1 of 2026! gnu.org/software/hurd/news/202

  3. Welche Betriebssystem-Kernel-Projekte könnten etwas Liebe gebrauchen?

¿Qué proyectos de kernel necesitan algo de amor?

    Which kernel projects need TLC?

    #Hurd ? #Haiku ? Anders/otro/other?

  4. Never mind just Linux; this would seem to raise serious issues for any group producing their own kernel without an army of lawyers on staff e.g. *BSD, RedoxOS, Graphene, ReactOS, Haiku, illumos and perhaps even plan9 and operating system textbooks and learning frameworks like FluxOSKit. There is furthermore some significant scariness about packets crossing borders rendering ppl liable for violations of all this when passing through spaces wherein USA agents may apprehend them.

  5. Dear hackers,

I am a Free Software instructor and systems programmer who loves internet techology, and dedicated to advancing open-source innovation through my own initiatives and community leadership. My work is not a job application—it is my profession and mission. I have taken on the role of Project Lead Developer and Systems Programmer within my own company, where I design, build, and teach Free Software systems that empower individuals and organizations.

At QB Networks, I lead a developer team focused on replacing proprietary solutions with Free Software, primarily through GNU Emacs and modular programming practices. My leadership extends to projects in artificial intelligence research, malware analysis, and game development. As Project Lead Developer of Procyberian Systems Distribution (PSD GNU/Linux, GNU/Hurd , BSDs especially FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD systems), I oversee cross-platform application development, kernel engineering, and community programming education. These responsibilities reflect my commitment to building sustainable, transparent, and collaborative ecosystems.

Beyond technical leadership, I contribute to community-driven initiatives such as the Linux® Türkiye Community, where I serve as Documentation Team Lead and also as Translation Team Lead. In this capacity, I coordinated Turkish localization efforts and took responsibility as reviewer for the DevOps LPI translation project, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for learners and professionals. These roles reinforced my dedication to empowering communities through education, translation, and Free Software advocacy.

My background in economics complements my technical expertise, allowing me to approach projects with both analytical and strategic perspectives. I am passionate about advancing the Free Software Movement and believe that my skills in systems programming, kernel engineering, and AI development are essential to building a freer, more secure digital future.

This is the work I have chosen, and it is the work I continue to lead. I welcome collaboration with those who share the vision of empowering communities through Free Software.

    Best regards,
    Mert Gör

Not looking forward to/catering for a switch to the GNU Hurd?

    Not interested.

  8. Hey uhh #Hurd

Gentoo has caught my attention. I have also had greybeards tell me about dabbling in Hurd and finding it most efficacious for tasks that it's tuned for.

What I'm curious about is porting drivers from Linux - is this a straightforward process that any curious monkey with sufficient determination could learn to do for itself, even with only minimal C experience?

  9. How about considering coming over to #guix @rek2. Maybe you will find what you were looking for in arch and gentoo there. Note the guix community is also actively supporting the #hurd and even ramping it up guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2026/the-

  10. I am back on #gentoo I started to use Gentoo in 2002/2003 stop to use #arch around 2011 give or take, and now fed up for distros trying to tell me how to do things and when to do them I am back to the roots, also they are supporting #GNU #HURD soon more on #usenet chit chat!

  11. This Linux thing has run its course and I can't wait to get back to hacking on Mach..just like in NeXTSTEP times!

  12. @cwebber

My thoughts exactly. Two weeks ago, I defined this new milestone for Guix: "Minimal support for Guix/Hurd as a daily driver"

  13. @skyfaller @apteryx
It is not clear to me how LLMs were used to do what, on which project. I heard something about gnumach, and I have seen some email conversation and I'm also not sure if other projects were involved.

In any case, Guix is just the packager and this blog post is, I believe, mainly about the enormous efforts that were done the past 15 months in Guix. Of course we also mention work done upstream during this period.

I would appreciate it if you could take any questions or insights you may have about upstream Hurd project work or upstream Hurd project policies, and address them to the upstream Hurd project.

Also, for a free software project it is not always helpful to ask questions from the sideline and move along, it is often much more appreciated if you match any questions with services or work that you are willing to offer.

  15. "The 64-bit #Hurd is Here!" -- and available in #Guix

And cross compile for the Hurd just works:

    $ guix build --system=x86_64-gnu hello

  21. Me personally as a hacker , believe in martial arts and practice it in every situation in life. When it comes to music, other arts, science, sports, politics, human relationships. I believe in Freedom and Openness ... Some people say you are "too open" and tell everything you do. But on my take this is my personality. When it comes to "Open Source" I believe in trying everything whether it is free or nonfree open or not ... Because I know that yes I know that I can hack my own software , hardware , scientific algorithms and artistic contributions to the humanity, society anytime.

My question is to you Mr Linus Torvalds, do you belive GNU/Linux or Linux whatever we say, the Operating System Distributions can we make something like a community who helps others while helps themself but taking care of the whole ecosystem , not a part like pentesting, server, embedded , or any other.

Because I don't want to miss any thing.

Thanks for your contributions ! and Enjoy your rest of life. Because you have the right to do that and you deserve that.

  22. @landley @thelinuxcast @fuchsiii @musl personally, I think #GlibC and anything #GNU / #FSF related (except maybe #GCC) is kinda unsalvageable at this point, and I'd rather use #enc and pipe some of it's functions as aliases into my #bash config than to waste my time manually fiddling with #GnuPG because I have more important things to do in my life than to accept bad Software and/or UX in my workflows, which is why I want a medical note certifying that I'm allergic to Windows so i've to never even see that shit in my life...

Sorry for the rant, but yeah, glibc and #GPG are a mess and I know some folks would prefer to be sentenced to lifetime forced labour on #Hurd instead...

  23. Some 20 years ago (twenty!), I was at #RMLL/Libre Software Meeting in Bordeaux — my first free software conference ever — scared about giving a talk about the #Hurd with the little experience I had, meeting talented people like @nwalfield.

It was very much demystifying, inspiring, and fun — good memories of this young crowd wandering on the campus and making plans for a better world!
