Durante siglos se dijo que el Arca era poco más que un relato simbólico.
Pero cuando te paras a mirar algunos detalles, la cosa se vuelve más incómoda de lo que parece.
En el Génesis no solo se cuenta una historia: se dan medidas concretas, proporciones claras y hasta una idea bastante definida de cómo debía ser la estructura.
Y eso ha hecho que más de uno se pregunte si ahí hay algo más que mito.

Por ejemplo, la famosa proporción 300:50:30.
Traducida a números actuales, da una especie de “cajón flotante” enorme, de más de 130 metros de largo.
Lo curioso es que estudios modernos de ingeniería naval han comprobado que esa relación es sorprendentemente estable en condiciones de oleaje extremo.
No es un barco para navegar bonito, es un bloque pensado para no volcar.
Punto a favor: el diseño tiene sentido.
Punto en contra: saber hacer algo estable no implica que alguien lo hiciera de verdad hace miles de años.

Luego está el terreno.
En Turquía, cerca del Monte Ararat, hay una formación conocida como Durupınar que parece, a simple vista, el casco de un barco enterrado.
Mide unos 157 metros, que encaja bastante bien con los “300 codos” si eliges ciertas equivalencias.
Escaneos con radar han detectado líneas internas, estructuras en ángulo y lo que algunos interpretan como niveles o compartimentos.
Además, hay más materia orgánica dentro que fuera y hasta restos marinos en la zona.

Suena potente… hasta que entra la geología.
La mayoría de expertos dice que es una formación natural, un pliegue del terreno moldeado por sedimentos, presión y erosión.
Las “estructuras” pueden ser simplemente capas de roca.
Y lo que algunos llaman madera petrificada, muchas veces es limonita, un mineral que engaña bastante al ojo.
Aquí el resumen es claro: hay datos curiosos, pero la interpretación está muy disputada.

Y hay otro detalle clave que suele olvidarse: el diluvio no es exclusivo de la Biblia.
En la Epopeya de Gilgamesh ya aparece una historia muy parecida, con un superviviente, una gran inundación y una embarcación.
Eso apunta a algo interesante: distintas culturas recordando un evento parecido.
¿Qué pudo ser?
Probablemente inundaciones masivas reales en Mesopotamia, como la teoría de la subida del nivel del Mar Negro hace unos 7.000 años.
Para la gente de entonces, eso era literalmente el fin del mundo.

Ahora, incluso si aceptamos por un momento que el arca existió, viene la pregunta incómoda de verdad: ¿cómo metes animales ahí dentro sin que se convierta en un caos absoluto?

Porque no hablamos de un par de cabras y gallinas.
Hablamos de depredadores, presas, animales territoriales, especies con dietas muy específicas.
En condiciones normales, es inviable que convivan sin matarse.

Las explicaciones que se suelen dar son tres, y ninguna es perfecta.
▪️La primera tira de fe: intervención divina.
Animales tranquilos, sin agresividad, casi en un estado alterado.
Funciona dentro del relato, pero no se puede comprobar fuera de él.
▪️La segunda intenta ser más biológica: algo parecido a hibernación o letargo.
El problema es que la mayoría de especies no puede hacer eso, y menos durante tanto tiempo. ▪️La tercera es logística: compartimentos, separación estricta, organización por niveles.
Eso podría evitar ataques… pero abre otro problema enorme: la alimentación.

Porque, ¿Qué comen los carnívoros durante meses?
¿Carne almacenada?
¿En qué condiciones?
¿Cuánta?
¿Cómo se conserva sin pudrirse?
Y luego está el agua, los desechos, las enfermedades… gestionar eso en un espacio cerrado ya es complicado hoy, imagínate entonces.

Aun así, hay quien plantea que no haría falta meter “todas” las especies, sino tipos básicos de animales (lo que algunos llaman “clases” o ancestros comunes), reduciendo el número total.
Eso aliviaría el problema, pero no lo elimina del todo.

Al final, lo honesto es esto: hay cosas del relato que sorprenden —las proporciones, la coincidencia con otras culturas, ciertos hallazgos curiosos— y hay otras que, si las miras de frente, no encajan con lo que sabemos hoy sobre biología y logística.

No hace falta elegir blanco o negro.
Puede haber un fondo real (una gran catástrofe, recuerdos transmitidos durante generaciones) mezclado con elementos simbólicos o exagerados.
Lo que está claro es que, si el Arca fue real, no fue una operación “normal”.
Y si no lo fue, tampoco es un cuento cualquiera: algo tuvo que pasar para que tantas culturas distintas acabaran contando versiones parecidas.

Ahí está lo interesante de verdad… no en demostrar quién tiene razón, sino en entender por qué seguimos haciéndonos la misma pregunta miles de años después 🙂

Keep Left emerged from the Catherine Connolly presidential election campaign in 2025.

Similar to Marriage Equality (#MarRef) and Together for Yes (#RepealThe8th), it's non-party, and aims at uniting parties on the left around shared common goals. Dublin Central is something of a test bed.
