I am #Australian, trained & ordained in #ZenBuddhism in #Japan, but #Australian nonetheless. I see no value in cosplaying as #Japanese, dressing in robes, or imitating rituals that were themselves borrowed centuries ago from Chinese imperial bureaucracy. #Buddhism is not the adoption of another culture. #Buddhism is not costume. It is not ritual. It is not language. It is not chanting in a tongue you do not understand. It is not incense, bells, hats, or ceremonial sticks. (5/7)

It takes a lot of conditioning to separate ourselves from our true nature. We spend a lifetime doing it. It takes a lot of training to reconnect with our true nature.
There comes a moment when we realize that something isn't quite right, that somehow we haven't been told the whole story, that there's more to this life than people seem to think or than we've been told. The moment that thought arises, we begin to glimpse something, and the need to awaken is born.

#Mukyōhō is a modern expression of #ZenBuddhism that removes boundaries & categories. The name means “no boundary teaching.” It points to the idea that divisions we usually believe in, such as #body versus #mind, “self” versus others, or even concepts like status & identity, are not fixed realities but things we create. #Mukyōhō encourages directly experiencing life without clinging to these divisions. So this kid is hitting meditating people in the face with like a long stick or fan or something, and my Buddhist brain is like, "is that a keisaku??? You're not supposed to be hitting people in the face with one of those, child!" But good reflex on bringing the sleeping ones out of their slumber and back into the moment.

#Nudity supports #mindful #awareness. Without clothing, one cannot escape into image or persona. Attention returns to sensation, breath, & ground. This #mindfulness is not sexual; it is clarity. Feeling water flow around skin helps the #mind settle into now. Feeling a breeze pass across the #body reminds that #nature is always touching us, always sustaining us. The erotic is not located in skin. It is located in intention, attention, & interpretation. Two people may stand #naked in the same space: one may be meditating quietly, the other may be searching for stimulation. The physical situation is identical, but the meaning is entirely different. Desire makes sexuality. #Nudity makes #nature. These are separate paths. To assume they must merge says more about conditioning than about bodies.
