Artist UnknownSo absinthe was reputed to make its drinkers go mad. Do lashunta have a drink of similar infamy?
There's ~lamuqovau~ - sweetdeath wine - made from the berries of the kovau tree. The berries, when eaten raw, take root in the digestive track and begin to grow, eventually killing the eater. In making sweetdeath wine, the pressed sap is first boiled, allegedly destroying the threat. Yet there are witchtales of people dying from drinking it, making ~lamuqovau~ and edgy drink for those willing to dare.

As you can see from that screenshot; chapter five of Cityscape Chronicles is on hold while I work on world building. I'm not just designing a bestiary, I'm redesigning common fantasy races and working with endonyms and exonyms for the heritages. Like with the updated fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, we're seeing language changes happening in the fantasy space. Behind the design: the Rotbringer and last week's creature share a skeleton on purpose. Same body plan, same six-eyed silhouette — one bacterial and territorial, one fungal and ranged. Same lineage, opposite instincts. Neither reads as a reskin once you meet them in the field.

Bestiary Progress
Other than the basic mundane creatures; the bestiary is up to two lesser cats, a snake, a rat, and I'm working through a canine. Being able to work on what animals and such I want characters to encounter is making it easier to figure out what all regions I want to include in the world. Friday Night Lashunta Inspiration
Artist: Titian - Diana and ActeonIn a conversaton with my best friend, she advised now is perhaps the best time to gather inspiration for developing a matriarchal society for the lashunta. She told there is a lot of defiant dialog about rejecting Patriarchy that could be used, and that she would very much like to see the catalytic event that caused lashunta women to reject Patriarchy, to rise up, and to subjugate the men who had previously abused them. I got the impression she was looking for a revolution.
And yet here's the problem: she assumed lashunta women were oppressed like their human counterparts. It never occurred to her Lashunta Society might have evolved organically as a matriarchy, and there never was such a revolution. If anything, lashunta have the opposite problem: males have historically suffered under oppression.
The Damaya Matriarchy is the lashunta social norm. All other subgroups have had to endure their privilege.

a twofer! Artist is Kloir - https://www.deviantart.com/kloirOne is a good one for Heaventide night when the sky is briefly clear, Elindrae is visible, and not only the stars, but the glowmotes are in bloom, and the fireflies are taking advantage to come out. This is the time of year when lashunta build bonfires and summon witchlights to celebrate with mead and berrywine after the harvest's long day. The other, more of a diurnal pic, illustrates an example of the non-green nature of Castrovel's foliage (although green does exist).
Since I've previously talked about the almost constant rain Castrovel undergoes, I suppose it would be a fair statement that the pics I post disproportionately show drier weather. I've mulled on this. Part of it may be one gets more vivid work with better light, whereas a truly rainy scene would be so muted it may not stand out.
