  1. The “Unique WiFI Networks in DB” counter on @WiGLEnet is gonna roll 2 BILLION tomorrow.

    Holy #wigleKittens Batman, that’s a LOT of #wifi

  3. I was waiting for the “passing on your left!” call, and there it is!

Kudos to #50 #truemarmalade - kicking ass in the big board once again!

  4. @CerstinMahlow I've been using #wigle on mobile for several years now. It just seems that #NearbyGlasses is just a highly focused (BT/BLE MACs) version of that.

My nagging thought is "What's stopping those Meta Ray-bans from hoovering up the nearby Wifi/BT/BLE MACs as well?".

THAT is the real surveillance here and I don't put it past Meta to do this.

  5. Got fed up with #wigle's web interface and started loading my #wardriving records into #qgis instead.

    Overly complicated and massively overkill?

    Yes... but it is working.

  6. Gemeni can take zipped #Wigle capture .CSV files and generate accurate #SIGINT reports and graphs!

In this example, it was able to determine the airport I was descending towards from about 60 seconds of signal data.

  7. Chasing Your Tail, a cool, open source tool to help track your trackers.

Ironic that it uses a Raspberry Pi given that the corporation has moved to work closely with law enforcement, but then the creator was a Fed for 22 years 🤷🏿‍♂️

  8. In July the Radio Frequency Hackers Sanctuary and the team at WiGLE.net support an all out timesd event for WarDriving.

It’s just bragging rights for the scoreboard mostly - however a factored number of your WarDrive points do count for the inperson DEFCON Wireless Village Capture The Flag event during the DEFCON gathering.

This year I won, a lot like the first year I ever attempted it and I wrote it up completely so that you can understand how to post a lot of points on the scoreboard or maybe even win.

    Read that here - busysignal.io/wwwd2025-defcon3

  9. If you wanna do #HamRadio / #AmateurRadio at the same while doing #WarDrive things you need to filter out the low 2m/70cm (140/440mhz) freq from blowing up the WarDrive rig. #WiFi #Wigle #Yaesu #2m #70cm

The Yaesu #FTM500 is 50W of TX power.

    It’s still a risk.

But we shall see how it all does.

  10. Y'all don't even realize. 20 years ago, before there were Raspberry Pis and smartphones, we used to mount whole-ass PCs in the trunks of our cars in order to wardrive. 😆

I was particularly proud of this setup where I built a custom circuit to detect the ignition power and trip the "Power ON" signal to the motherboard. I had a similar set of logic for shutdown - when the ignition power went off it would send a signal to a running daemon which would issue a shutdown to the Linux OS. The circuit waited ~60 seconds for that to complete and then powered off the PC whether it did or not (so that it wouldn't drain my battery to zero if the PC was locked up or something.)

This setup powered up automatically when I started the car & brought up Kismet.

It also watched for my home SSID / MAC Addr and, if present, would connect to my network to upload the results to #Wigle

LOL this stuff is so much easier now. A spare Pixel 3 running the Wigle app does everything this whole setup did.

  11. Looks like @WiGLEnet has quite a backlog for trilaterating (6543) and geolocating (485). Everyone except three uploaders is on the same rank with 0 discovered WiFis, and no new WiFis have been added to the database today

  12. I didn’t make a new hard hat for #defcon this year. I thought about it but my hat last year got such a good response it deserves at least one more year!

I did give it a few upgrades though, including some glasses.

  13. New in 1.6- Tweak scanning options from the SD card. Speed mode for battery. No more optimization releases for a while 😎 🛜

  14. @vees I use a Xiaomi Mi10T 5G Lite and a Nokia T10 (Tablet). Both also usually run Cellmapper for Mobile Phone coverage along next to #Wigle.

  15. I've spent the last few months canvassing residential neighborhoods in #Boulder for petition signatures for various candidates I support. But because I am an inveterate #hacker I quickly realized I could bump up my #WiGLE #wwwd rank if I engaged in a little complementary war-walking.

The #HackerBoxes "wispy" kit (hackerboxes.com/collections/pa) is a pair of ESP-32 WROOM dev boards, a GPS receiver and a daughterboard with an OLED display and two antenna mounts. It tracks wifi and Bluetooth/BLE and fits inside a clipboard! #ElectMoreHackers

  16. 🤔
So my latest #wigle run won't upload.

    Weird.

  17. Found a minty fresh Pixel 6 Pro 256GB locally and was able to pick it up yesterday. It's been a long time since I used a premium Android phone for WiGLE.

The LG G6 was a really great phone that I spent good money to get and it was a stellar performer in it's day. The Nexus 5 was my first WiGLE phone, but it had a tough time.

I did a downgrade to Android 12 at the suggestion of El Kentaro, but as this phone had already been upgraded to 13 and 14, it included a downgrade lock. The solution was to flash the Development build, which is completely functional with no appreciable downsides.

I was going about this all in the command line, but found that in Chrome or Edge you can do all of this from a web page using the serial connection. I'd used this only last week to upgrade the firmware on some AR glasses and found it amazing.

So far the Pixel 6 Pro is seeing many more SSIDs and BT than my current phone, the Moto One Ace 5G, which was my step after the G6.
