Just reading the manual for the Yaesu FT-60R has convinced me to buy it. I originally thought it’d be pretty limited solely because it doesn’t have an LCD screen, but literally the only thing that my Baofeng AR-5RM does better is have twice the character limit for channel names. #hamradio #amateurradio #yaesu #baofeng

I used a good old #Yaesu FT-290Rii and its 25W amp with a basic homemade Ground Plane.

Yesterday I climbed on top of the "Vorderer Langenberg" in the #Pfälzerwald (#Palatinate Forest) here in #Germany for a combined #SOTA #POTA #WWFF activation. I didn't expect much traffic around noon, but then ended up having a pile-up so high, I had to apply priorisation techniques to get everybody through 😵💫
I only stopped after 88 QSOs in 90 minutes because I was planning to activate more parks in France later that day.

After the ham event at the weekend, I decided to make a few little upgrades. Today, I received a USB-C charging battery and TWAYRDIO RH 660S for my Baofeng UV-5R. I’ve also got a SignalStick en route. Bought BNC adapters for it all too.
Then in a couple of weeks we’re driving past a Ham Radio Outlet and I’m hoping to pick up a Yaesu FT-5DR.

@dl2sba A 40-10m EndFed antenna with a 49:1 impedance transformer and a ~2 meter counterpoise, 5 meters of H-155 as the antenna feed cable, a #Yaesu FT-891 (mostly running at 40 watts but I dialed it up to 100 when necessary), and 3 12V/6Ah #Eremit LiFePo4 batteries.
I didn't expect the EndFed to do this well at such a low height and with all the obstructions around it. Propagation can be a very strange thing.

@pa8mm Those are from German company #Eremit. They are rated 12.8V / 6Ah / 76.8Wh and are some of the very few on the market that are rated for up to 18A of power draw in such a small form factor. Most other #LiFePo4 batteries have management systems that shut down long before that, making them unsuitable for my #Yaesu FT-891. It draws ~11A at 50 watts and ~15.5A at 100W.

Did a roadtrip with my mobile #aprs digipeter ( #ftm500 #yaesu) today with my #uvpro monitoring with #aprsfi To my phone. Was about a 4.5 hour drive. Pretty interesting to see all the stations! Ansonsten scheint Android Auto aus Sicherheitsgründen (Vermeidung von Ablenkung des Fahrers) so zugenagelt zu sein, dass #HamRadio-Anwendungen eher durch's Raster fallen, da nur offizielle App-Store-Apps die Android-Auto-Funktionen nutzen dürfen und dafür nur eine recht enge Liste an App-Typen zugelassen wird. Wobei man Funkgeräte-Fernsteuerung vielleicht noch als IoT verargumentieren kann...
Das Beste wäre, #Yaesu, #Kenwood, #Icom & Co würden sich des Themas mit offiziellen Apps annehmen um den veränderten Bedingungen in modernen Autos Rechnung zu tragen.

Man, I wish I had, you know, friends.
Or at least friends who are close enough to me that I could use this feature, and who are actually into #HamRadio, and own a #Yaesu radio with the pager functionality. . .
What would be extra super cool would be if you could have a function that would look for #C4FM traffic from a list of contacts, and leave a bell if it noticed anyone transmitting.
Maybe that's a feature in pricier C4FM transceivers?

I sat on a #Xiegu #x6100 for the first time these days. It's crazy, with a little patience you can operate it just like that, without instructions. It's not an ingenious user interface, but simply much less confusing than anything #icom builds. Not to mention the bizarre menus of a #yaesu ;-) #hamradio #xiegu6100

Took over week to get them as VK seller so slow to get them in the post. besides that I now have a couple proper TNC cables for the #Yaesu FT-7800 & FT-857D that going to be wired to RS-232 male plug to be used with my #Module17 modem board. The cable I prevously made to do the job, the minidin6 didn't fit in the socket properly on the FT-7800 and the outer plastic sleeve had to be pulled back.
