Wardriving wasn’t only reconnaissance. It was mobility. As you moved through a city or town, your card could drop one SSID and latch onto the next. Coffee shop, library, offices, video rental stores, etc. The connection followed the street grid. Connectivity became something you drifted through.
You learned which blocks handed off cleanly, which APs were stable and which ones choked under load. It was RF cartography and opportunistic roaming at the same time. Cities and towns weren't just mapped, they were stitched together by signal.

Got fed up with #wigle's web interface and started loading my #wardriving records into #qgis instead.
Overly complicated and massively overkill?
Yes... but it is working.

This is a detail of the data that the hover shows; AP hash and estimated distance in meters (also thinking about give this data on "Emperor Penguin" units just for lmao) also shows the latitude and longitude that are blurry to keep some privacy.

Today I'm dealing with some improvements on CSV processing of WiFi Map for FlipperZero and its ESP32 companion https://github.com/carvilsi/flipper0-wifi-map
Drawing circles over @openstreetmap for estimation distance to detected APs during "warwalking" to the grocery store.
Despite implementing a basic cli I'm close to release the processing code.

Here I was thinking the KISS protocol support was going to be hard ✨
Actually this flew together, mostly bc @meph already did all the hard stuff on KISS handling.
So just check which output mode we're in and yeet the data at the BLE data KISS port.

I found out which plugs you have to take to use the #Lilygo #CC1101 #expansion ports: "4pin sh1.0 plug"
Now you can use the #Serial / #UART or #I2C expansions for connecting #IoT sensors.
Plug cable:
- white, yellow - data
- red - 3.3V
- black - ground
I will connect a #GPS for #wardriving soon.

Anyone have good hashtags for #wardriving and #datalogging ? I have been thinking about a project to really just start logging as many signals and fingerprints as possible. Ideally on a #BikeTooter friendly size. I’m mostly curious about whatever existing autonomous systems, or connected systems exist in rural areas.
I’m very much a novice at this. Any links or anything would be appreciated.

I didn’t make a new hard hat for #defcon this year. I thought about it but my hat last year got such a good response it deserves at least one more year!
I did give it a few upgrades though, including some glasses.

Pixel 6 @WiGLEnet users any verdict on Android 14? My P6 is prompting to update but I don’t want to wreck a good thing, as this phone is a BEAST for #wardriving in so many ways.

I ran @WiGLEnet on the car media system in our camper while we traveled the last 3 weekd, and it recorded the position of my wifi hotspot - with the faulty GNSS system.
Therefore the edges of my wifi's position are:
- Iceland (westernmost)
- Switzerland (southernmost)
- Sewernaja, Russia (northernmost and easternmost) -
Day 3 of #FlToAz lands us in AZ after 13:33 more hours of driving, 806 more miles to cap 2,350 or so total miles in 3 days.
Results from the Core Prime, S7, S9, and Pixel 6 uploaded. Shows the Pixel is a BEAST not only for battery but for everything else #wardriving.
On @WiGLEnet more then 3,900 new APs and an amazing 560 new cell towers, all along the I-10 corridor!
