  1. The ESP32 Has Quietly Become One of the Most Interesting Hacker Devices Alive

Expensive hardware often becomes ornamental. People baby it. They curate it. They build identities around owning it. Cheap hardware gets modified until it resembles evidence recovered from a flooded basement.

  7. Wardriving wasn’t only reconnaissance. It was mobility. As you moved through a city or town, your card could drop one SSID and latch onto the next. Coffee shop, library, offices, video rental stores, etc. The connection followed the street grid. Connectivity became something you drifted through.

You learned which blocks handed off cleanly, which APs were stable and which ones choked under load. It was RF cartography and opportunistic roaming at the same time. Cities and towns weren't just mapped, they were stitched together by signal.

  9. My very first #wardriving attempt for #meshcore.

I was struggling to connect MeshMapper app to Heltec V4. It was stuck at the authentication step with some "timestamp is too old" message. A couple of factory resets solved the issue (shrug).

The purpose of this wardriving initiative is to visualize an actual LoRa mesh coverage on a map. This helps to understand which areas are covered by MeshCore repeaters. In case you are interested, Vilnius coverage is here vno.meshmapper.net

  10. Spotted this while exploring my #wardriving results in #qgis.
It appears that there's a house with a JuanCloud wireless NVR running on channel 13.
This is somewhat interesting as channels 12 and 13 are only allowed in North America at very low radiated power limits (14 is outright banned).
I would guess that this person is running the device illegally, likely without even realizing it.

  11. Got fed up with #wigle's web interface and started loading my #wardriving records into #qgis instead.

    Overly complicated and massively overkill?

    Yes... but it is working.

  12. There is a movie coming out entitled “WARDRIVER” and it looks to be ever so slightly about wardriving.

*Please* tell me someone I know was a technical consultant on this flick!

  13. Just to be clear - I was personally doing #wardriving in Warsaw like ~15 years ago, all legitimate and and part of official security assessment. I can imagine doing it today, but I would be 100% sure to have three notarised copies of customer contract and all other available credentials on hand, especially if I was doing it abroad… This bit seems to be clearly missing here.

  14. This is a detail of the data that the hover shows; AP hash and estimated distance in meters (also thinking about give this data on "Emperor Penguin" units just for lmao) also shows the latitude and longitude that are blurry to keep some privacy.

BTW: the colected data about AP (stored on FlipperZero) is a hash to keep some privacy.

  17. Today I'm dealing with some improvements on CSV processing of WiFi Map for FlipperZero and its ESP32 companion github.com/carvilsi/flipper0-w

Drawing circles over @openstreetmap for estimation distance to detected APs during "warwalking" to the grocery store.

Despite implementing a basic cli I'm close to release the processing code.

  20. Here I was thinking the KISS protocol support was going to be hard ✨

Actually this flew together, mostly bc @meph already did all the hard stuff on KISS handling.

So just check which output mode we're in and yeet the data at the BLE data KISS port.

  22. Some progress processing the collected APs data from ESP32 as a companion for FlipperZero, right now able to draw some points, over a OpenStreetMaps, representing my route during the "WarWalking", to the grocery store.

Processed with the CSV stored at FlipperZero side and providing starting and ending latitude and longitude.

  23. Also secretly working on some post processing about the collected data on my WarDriving sessions or better to say WarWalking ;)

    Right now very ugly-non-sense plot.

  26. I found out which plugs you have to take to use the #Lilygo #CC1101 #expansion ports: "4pin sh1.0 plug"

    Now you can use the
    #Serial / #UART or #I2C expansions for connecting #IoT sensors.

    Plug cable:
    - white, yellow - data
    - red - 3.3V
    - black - ground

    I will connect a
    #GPS for #wardriving soon.

Where can I buy it (use a search engine of your trust):

Stay tuned and follow me if you don't want to miss it and I'll tell you what you can do with the device.

  30. Anyone have good hashtags for #wardriving and #datalogging ? I have been thinking about a project to really just start logging as many signals and fingerprints as possible. Ideally on a #BikeTooter friendly size. I’m mostly curious about whatever existing autonomous systems, or connected systems exist in rural areas.

I’m very much a novice at this. Any links or anything would be appreciated.

Here is a picture of a deer on my bike as an offering.

  31. I made a very nice tool for easy mapping your wardriving findings ;)

    => map.p1x.in/

    p.s. default values are fake

  32. Anyone more in tune with @CoD_Segfault #wardriver plans know if the v2 of their mini is going to be released online or via physical purchase at #defcon 33?

  33. *shakes the card at those dang kids passing his house*

You dang kids have no idea how easy you have it with integrated WIFI on your iPad and phones!! In my day we had #PCMCIA cards on our 10lbs laptops!!! (Actually my first WIFI was a PCI card for my desktop.)

I was digging through my tech junk drawer looking for my Pebble charging cable and found this. This thing brings back the memories. I use to do a ton of #wardriving . I never accessed an AP but did scan for them. I legit drove around the twin cities to the point that back in day of 2003, I collected 4,401 AP's with GPS details. Today? That isn't even a 5 mile radius. But in 2003. It was a lot.
