I was in 2 #ICE's today (german highspeed trains), and one had #GPS signal, the other one didn't.

Must be these weird lead windows or whatever. Meanwhile, cell data again worked?

So I could only collect one way, not the way back. Luckily my tricks ramped up the scan rate a lot.

- close to window
- charged with powerbank, screen on (caffeine)
- #TowerCollector collects towers per distance
- I run it in parallel with #NeoStumbler for most data

Do you plan on integrating data by #OpenCellID into your database?

With the announced unprivileged NetworkLocation App in #GrapheneOS, this would be a huge benefit.

I am a contributor to OpenCellID for a long time, with #TowerCollector.

Currently I use NeoStumbler and Towercollector at once, to upload to OpenCellID too.

I contributed waaay more to OpenCellID than was possible with #BeaconDB, simply because it is so young!

Today I learned that there is a fork of #MozillaStumbler that is able to work with modern versions of Android: https://github.com/GerryFerdinandus/MozStumbler/releases

It's does not show the map (Mozilla's API token must be expired), looks like a 10-years-old app, but still can do what no other app so far is able to: collect the WiFi AP location data and upload it to Mozilla's MLS!

Now I should walk through the same neighbourhoods where I've already collected cell towers with #TowerCollector earlier 😄

@[email protected] Indeed, it's the only database with WiFi APs. There used to be radiocells.org, but it seems dead.
Btw how do you upload WiFi data? The Stumbler app does not work on modern Android versions, and #TowerCollector (an excellent one otherwise) works only with cell towers...

Even if you're not a developer, give back to the #opensource community. I do it by getting people to install #linux and explaining why it's a viable #os. Also, I run #streetcomplete which provides various data elements to the #openstreetmap project, enhancing their mapping. It's full of quests that earn you points. Install #towercollector to contribute to the #opencellid and #mozilla projects. All are available on #fdroid. And always send error/crash reports for any #foss software you use.
