  1. Traveling to #FOSDEM? Do not forget to collect antennas, and #wifi points for @beacondb!

Read here how to do that:

And, let's make #Brussels the city with most #geolocation measurements the coming days.

  2. To all #FOSS supporting people traveling these days: Please consider collecting wireless geolocation information for the #publicdomain #geolocation database #beaconDB.

Check the map via the link above to see how it is filling up with more and more points. Amazing and very interesting to see.

Also note the differences per continent.

  3. The latest version of #TowerCollector includes built-in support for BeaconDB, replacing the now defunct MLS server by default!

If you'd like to support offline, private by default geolocation, how about collecting cell tower data for the #OpenCellID (CC-BY dumps) and #BeaconDB (planned CC0 dumps) projects?

  5. @Cappyjax I've been using #TowerCollector so far to contribute to #OpenCellID (and previously #MLS). I wonder whether they'll add #BeaconDB support?
    f-droid.org/packages/info.zamo

EDIT: it's already supported as custom configured MLS service.

  6. #TowerCollector isn't happy on #SailfishOS - after installation it terminates after a while, then won't start again unless I uninstall it.

  7. Today I learned that there is a fork of that is able to work with modern versions of Android: github.com/GerryFerdinandus/Mo

It's does not show the map (Mozilla's API token must be expired), looks like a 10-years-old app, but still can do what no other app so far is able to: collect the WiFi AP location data and upload it to Mozilla's MLS!

Now I should walk through the same neighbourhoods where I've already collected cell towers with earlier 😄

  8. @[email protected] Indeed, it's the only database with WiFi APs. There used to be radiocells.org, but it seems dead.
Btw how do you upload WiFi data? The Stumbler app does not work on modern Android versions, and (an excellent one otherwise) works only with cell towers...

  9. Even if you're not a developer, give back to the community. I do it by getting people to install and explaining why it's a viable . Also, I run which provides various data elements to the project, enhancing their mapping. It's full of quests that earn you points. Install to contribute to the and projects. All are available on . And always send error/crash reports for any software you use.
