Auch bei uns ist auf #2m oft tote Hose, insbesondere die Relais sind häufig stumm.
Deswegen #amateurfunk zum "sterbenden Hobby" zu erklären, sehe ich nicht. Die Interessen haben sich verschoben - auf der Kurzwelle habe ich keine Probleme, QSOs zu fahren.

Vielleicht brauchen wir auch mal wieder eine französische Firma, die meint, dass man das 2-Meter-Band dringend für blabla braucht. Dann jammern alle. "Noiiiiiinnnnnn!"
Gefunkt wird dann aber trotzdem nicht. :ablobcool:

A very successful open day. Our #QO100 station worked Brazil, France and South Wales. An interesting experience where stations in such different locations are all the same signal strength.
Jake worked a few stations on the #23cm band, the furthest was in Gayton, Northamptonshire.
Ian worked Spain and Poland on #6m and some locals on #4m with a dual band Yagi.
North Wales Amateur Radio Group had fun on #2m and Wirral Peninsula amateur radio club were active on #HF.

My experience is pretty boring, i think. I don't know how exotic my QSOs get, as when i was SUPER active, I didn't know how to tell how exotic a station was.

Most all the #DX i have ever done was #MorseCode

But i did hit the #MIR on #2m #VHF back in the day. that seemed pretty exotic.

Additionally, before I had a play on 23cms, my good friend @DafyddJack activated the summit on #2m and #70cm using just a couple of older mono-band handhelds he picked up for a bargain price. Using just a whip antenna, he managed to work a station in Lockerbie in Scotland!

Is the IC-905 an ideal SOTA radio? No. But you can absolutely do a #SOTA activation with one, and I'll do it again. Many times. This was the summit of Penycloddiau today (GW/NW-054). Made a very half-hearted attempt at the VHF contest. Made two contacts on 2m, one CW and the other SSB. I could hear others, but my 5 watts and rubber duck antenna weren't getting out well competing with the big guns.

Well that was an absolute blast. Played radio with @DafyddJack from some high ground in north east Wales this afternoon. Worked Germany (multiple times), The Netherlands and France on #2m #SSB, 30-50w TX power and a 3 element SOTAbeam.

Which #2m #antenna for my SOTA backpack ?

I'm looking for a lightweight and easily packable device for 144/145 MHz

I would use it with a FT-290R-II and its 25W amp in FM/SSB in horizontal and vertical polarization.

I'm still here playing radio on the ARRL September #VHF Contest. #6m and #2m were hopping this morning (although no Sporadic-E was detected here). Now, I feel like everyone has probably worked everyone else, the bands have gone quiet, and everyone's taking a nap. #hamradio

APRS DX map shows decent opening on #2m this morning but no one is on the air! #VHF
