"Tenant and labor unions in Minneapolis and St. Paul have announced plans to carry out what they said would be the 'largest rent strike in the United States in the last 100 years.'
"Beginning on #March1, if Democratic Minnesota Gov. #TimWalz does not meet their urgent demands for an #EvictionMoratorium and #RentRelief, a coalition of nearly 26,000 workers has pledged to withhold rent, which they said could create a massive economic disruption.
"The plans were announced on Tuesday by the tenants union #TwinCitiesTenants, which is joined by five labor unions: Service Employees International Union (#SEIU) Local 26, SEIU Healthcare Minnesota/Iowa, UNITE HERE Local 17, the Amalgamated Transit Union (#ATU) 1005, and Communication Workers of America (#CWA) 7250.
"They argued that a freeze on rents is desperately needed after 'nearly three months of federal occupation' under President Donald #Trump’s '#OperationMetroSurge,' which sent nearly 3,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (#ICE) and other immigration agents to the area, resulting in multiple fatal shootings and a wave of #CivilRights violations, including explicit #RacialProfiling."

Updated 4:44 PM EST, February 3, 2026MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — "Immigration officers with guns drawn arrested activists who were trailing their vehicles on Tuesday in Minneapolis, while education leaders described anxiety and fear in Minnesota #schools from the ongoing federal sweeps.
"Both are signs that tension remains in the Minneapolis area after the departure of high-profile commander #GregBovino of U.S. #BoarderPatrol and the arrival of #Trump administration border czar #TomHoman, which followed the fatal shooting of protester #AlexPretti.
"'There’s less smoke on the ground,' Gov. #TimWalz said, referring to #TearGas and other #irritants used by officers against #protesters, 'but I think it’s more chilling than it was last week because of the shift to the schools, the shift to the children.'
"At least one person who had an anti-ICE message on clothing was handcuffed while face-down on the ground. An Associated Press photographer witnessed the arrests.
ICE agents are changing their tactics
"Federal agents in the Twin Cities lately have been conducting more targeted immigration arrests at homes and neighborhoods, rather than staging in parking lots. The convoys have been harder to find and less aggressive. Alerts in activist group chats have been more about sightings than immigration-related detainments.
"Several cars followed officers through south Minneapolis after there were reports of them knocking at homes. Officers stopped their vehicles and ordered activists to come out of a car at gunpoint. Agents told reporters at the scene to stay back and threatened to use pepper spray."

Peter Beinart notes that the Anti-Defamation League and Holocaust Museum attacked Tim Walz after he said that what is being done to immigrant children by ICE and CBP brings to mind what was done to Anne Frank. ADL and the Holocaust Museumm suggest that it's unacceptable "to use the example of the Holocaust to suggest that something terrible is happening in Minnesota."

I loved what #TimWalz said during the 2024 Presidential Campaign “You don’t win elections to bank political capital - you win elections to burn capital and improve lives.”
Any politician, Democrat or other who doesn’t understand that and doesn’t operate under that premise everyday needs to step aside. The list of those who need to move on IS LONG. #Schumer tops that list.
