To arrive with something
Made by hand
A page where colors once
Listened to your breath …
A small painting carrying a piece of your day
Not bought, but felt, and gently given …Wouldn’t it be nice…
To gift a folded note, written slowly
With words that sat beside
Your heart for a while
Ink becoming warmth in
Someone else’s hands
A letter that lingers longer
Than any object …Wouldn’t it be nice…
To bring a pressed flower
From a walk you loved
Held between pages like a
Secret of the earth
A moment of stillness
Wrapped in paper
A memory, passed from you to them …Wouldn’t it be nice…
To offer a jar filled with tiny intentions
Little lines of hope, of courage, of light
So on heavy days, they can open one
And find you there, in a sentence …Wouldn’t it be nice…
If our gifts carried pieces of our presence
Instead f things that fade
Without a story
A drawing, a word, a fragment of soul

It's school holidays, but I need to go to the office to meet some students. My daughters want to come with me. Playing games on the train. When I meet my students, they stay in the room, quietly drawing their pictures. On the way back they walk arm in arm, laughing. We sit on a bench in the University gardens and eat the potato salad I made for them last night. Later we have an ice cream by the water.

Change is sometimes the universe doing for you what you won't do for yourself. Either because you can't see it. Or see it, but can't bring yourself to do it for yourself. Eitherway, we each get to where we need to be. How do we know? Where you are now, you needed to be here in your life. And here you are!

Your teachers have already found you, they just don't always come in the form you're looking for. The enemy is your teacher, the child is your teacher, the animal is your teacher, the grief is your teacher, the joy is your teacher. The teacher and the teaching and the taught, each, and all that you need to work with your life, is present with you already.

If you only knew how vast this moment is in its wholeness, how capable of multitudes, holding your past and future together with a pinch of time, you would not hasten from it so eagerly, but linger, linger here, in this everything that you ever have been and ever will be, right now.
