Discussed Venn diagrams with a couple of friends this morning, especially in the context of illustrating the utility of including all 3 or 4 of a specific set of design principles when creating certain kinds of things, and learned about the difference between Venn diagrams and Euler diagrams.
In short:
* a Venn diagram shows ALL possible relationships between different sets
* an Euler diagram shows only some relationships between different sets, typically focused on conveying relevant or the more important relationships

In pop culture and media, nearly any diagram of overlapping circles with labeled regions is (errantly) referred to as a “Venn diagram”.
This is imprecise at best, outright incorrect in many cases, especially diagrams of four circles.
A classic example is the “Ikigai” diagram:
Many (examples below) call this a Venn diagram. It is not a Venn diagram. It is an Euler diagram.
The Ikigai diagram fails to express two specific relationships between different sets, the two that contain opposing side circles but neither of the other two. The missing Ikigai sets relationships in particular:
1. only “you are good at” AND “the world needs” (with neither of the other two)
2. only “you love” AND “you can be paid for” (again with neither of the other two)
If you Google web search for "examples of four circle venn diagrams", Gemini gets this wrong:
And so do the majority of articles that Google shows in top results (which I’m not helping by linking here, but hey it’s Google’s job to fix its search quality, not mine. I was able to use Internet Archive links for two of them at least.)

This has interesting implications for expertise and trust.
Clearly by this one example search result, we cannot trust the expertise of "design tool" websites (boardmix, miro), nor stock photo websites.
Nor can we trust educationworld as a place to be educated.
Nor can we trust Google Search (or Google Gemini) to surface expertise above popular misconceptions.
Perhaps a good example of when to use Wikipedia search instead of Google (or other generic) web search.
Personally I generalize this example to “all proper nouns”, that is:

Minulla on kuukauden tauko pienestä vapaaehtoistyöstäni. Kummasti alkoi päivärytmi heti lipsua, mikä tarkoittaa sitä että en lopulta saa tehtyä aamujumppaa enkä mitään muutakaan ja tunnen itseni hyödyttömäksi ja alan masentua. Nyt otin ryhtiliikkeen: nukkumaan ajoissa ja aamulla jumppa sen kummemmin arpomatta mitä tehdä, ja sitten ilman aikataulua mitä milloinkin kiinnostaa. Tämä aamu alkoi hyvin 💚

Han pasado 2 meses sin hablar de #YokaiSenso ni de #RedPills ni de apenas nada relacionado con #lodelrol ...principalmente, porque no ha habido mucho de lo que hablar.
Se me ha ido acumulando la sensación de que hago estas cosas más por "obligación" que por placer, como si fuese a defraudar al mundo si no me pongo las pilas e hipoteco mi tiempo libre "productivizando" el desarrollo de juegos de rol... si monté una asociación sin ánimo de lucro ("Sueños Eléctricos") en vez de una empresa, es porque no me interesa eso. No quiero "ganarme la vida" con el rol, ni ser famoso (si acaso me gustaría que Zodiac fuese más conocido, pero si no lo es no pasa nada). Creo que el término "productivizar" es uno de los mayores cánceres de nuestro tiempo, que nos arranca silenciosamente el alma.
Cuando inicié mi andadura con el #SistemaZodiac adopté el principio KISS como uno de los pilares fundamentales que debe definir lo que hago, al igual que otro de los pilares es la filosofía de cultura libre de GNU. Creo que ya es hora de añadir otro pilar fundamental a esos principios: #ikigai ("tomarse las cosas con calma").
- En vez de marcarme objetivos con plazos a cumplir, basta con tener una "checklist", celebrar cuando pueda marcar un propósito como realizado pero no agobiarme si tardo en cumplirlo.
- No tengo motivos para seguir una "estrategia comercial" y, honestamente, no le debo nada a nadie (lo siento si suena brusco, pero es así). Mis prioridades debería marcarlas "lo que más me motiva hacer en cada momento", no "lo que se supone que debería hacer ahora".
- No debo olvidar que, sobre todo, hago lo que hago por mí mismo y para mí mismo. Es agradable recibir feedback, pero ese no debería ser el baremo con el que mida mis éxitos o fracasos: si algo de lo que hago cala entre X gente y gana popularidad, pues bien; si nadie le presta siquiera atención a lo que hago, también bien. En el fondo vale mucho más que una sola persona me comente lo bien que se lo ha pasado en una partida a uno de mis juegos, que estar en un top de ventas o descargas.Dicho todo esto, quienes leéis habitualmente mis posts en Mastodon o Bluesky sabréis que este mes no le estoy dedicando tiempo al desarrollo de ttrpg, sino al de un videojuego indie estilo metroidvania, con componentes rpg, de corte muy retro y pensado para la Gameboy Advance (el nicho dentro del nicho xD).
Eso no significa que haya abandonado sin más el desarrollo de Red Pills ni mucho menos el de Yôkai Sensô 2E (el niño de mis ojos), es sólo que ahora mismo tengo otras motivaciones... y creo que lo más importante que he hecho en lo que llevamos de año, es interiorizar que eso está bien.(PS: antes de que alguien me suelte el comentario previsible: NO, el ikigai no tiene NADA que ver con ese diagrama que lleva años circulando por internet).

Ancora #journaling . Questa frase mi si è fissata in mente da un po’ di tempo, e mi si illumina nel pensiero come un’insegna al neon ogni qualvolta qualcosa o qualcuno mi fa mettere in dubbio la mia identità.
Non c’è problema a scoprire tardi chi sono, se non sono ancora sicuro di alcune cose ( e le scoprirò nel tempo ) di altre ne sono certo, e questa è una di quelle.
