I've been thinking recently about my lifelong drive to get language right... I don't mean differences between dialects/accents (those are fine and fascinating), but rather, things like calling Antarctica, well, Antarctica instead of Anartica, alongside a desire to call counties by the name they call themselves instead of a name imposed on them by other peoples :frog_think:
there's definitely some drive stemming from the fact that I've had to juggle two mother tongue since fairly young, but also maybe some drive originating feom just how often my very Japanese name was mispronounced...
back when I was an egg, it was simple consonant-vowel pairs like most Japanese characters, but people would remove letters, switch letters, and hallucinate ones that weren't even there :cat_facepalm:

I kind of long for the days when I did compile the Linux kernel by myself for my desktop. I did it mainly to just see how to do it, but I did continue for a while.
The nice thing was that I had a configuration which had approximately the stuff I needed and not much else. I have no real data but I think it was also smaller than the distro’s kernel packages.
I could do it again, of course, but I don’t really see the need. It has slop anyway.

But this far I have not written a single sex scene, and am not really planning to either. Closest you may get to in the Fairytale is a single kiss, and it is not the type you may think. :P
Just not my cup of tea.

For the longest time (since their inception to about a week ago if we’re being precise), I thought the 🫂 emoji was an old fashioned film projector (which actually has its own emoji 📽️).
I thought people using it were offering sympathy by metaphorically suggesting they and the recipient watch an oldie feel-good film.
In my defence, my explanation is nicely romantic, and that hug one requires much more detail/contrast to be obvious (to me… and maybe only me 😅)

Sometimes I get nostalgic for that period of time in the 90s where genius marketing consisted of slapping a "2000" after every brand or product name. I especially fondly remember an antiques store near where I lived at the time. It was called "Antiek 2000" (Antiques 2000) and nothing has ever topped that.
