  1. this is a good interview in #TheHindu on the ongoing US-Israel attack on #Iran, and this part is very interesting. This is becoming a total defeat for #trump & the #US. US removed sanctions on both Russian and Iranian oils. The Strait of Hormuz was open and Iran was not controlling it before the start of this attack and now, #Hormuz is closed and opening it back has become the primary objective of this war!.. Even if Iran opens it, they are going to keep it under control and going to charge a #toll on the ships passing through the #strait. A total defeat for US!

they(Iran)’re selling more oil than they did before at a higher price. Prior to the war, they sold about 1.1 million barrels at $65 with an $18 discount because of the sanctions, meaning $47. Now, at least as of three days ago, they were selling at $110 with a $2 to $4 discount. They’re making more money than they were before as a result of this.

#Trump has no clue why he got in to this war, except he was towing behind #Bibi. Now he is escalating this big time and going to fail miserably. Problem is along with his failure, he is taking the whole world and global economy with him.

  14. This is an excellent article in #TheHindu on the proposed One Nation , One Election process in #India. I had been saying that this is a way of transforming India into a presidential democracy from the current parliamentary system to help concentrate the powers on one man (One nation, one leader!). Something similar to what happened in Turkiye.
    This article echos my views.

Articles 75 and 164 establish the collective responsibility of the executive to the legislature. Articles 83 and 172 prescribe only a maximum tenure of five years for legislatures, not a guaranteed term. Early dissolution is, therefore, not a defect but a democratic safeguard, allowing voters to renew the mandate when confidence collapses. ONOE reverses this logic, treating dissolution as an administrative inconvenience and subtly shifting India toward a quasi-presidential model that weakens legislative accountability.

  19. A decent #editorial in #TheHindu on #Modi's recent visit to Israel. Some highlights.

The Prime Minister said that India shared the pain and grief of every life lost in the October 2023 terror attack by Hamas but made no mention of the high toll — more than 72,000 killed — in the strikes on Gaza by Israel since then.
a decision to “stand with Israel, firmly... ” could come at the cost of India’s relations with other West Asian powers, which expect India to remain steadfast to its historically calibrated regional balance, and to principles of peace, morality and compassion in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

  23. This is an excellent article by @sanjayuvacha exposing the divisive politics of #India's ruling regime and how it uses cultural contexts to advance their agenda.

Think about what it means to force a Muslim civil servant, a Christian schoolteacher, a Sikh soldier, a Buddhist monk, or an atheist scientist to stand at attention while these verses are sung. That is not fostering unity. That is imposing a religious test in a secular republic.

  27. This is a good read from #TheHindu on the #TradeDeal between #India and #US.
Clearly India has surrendered to US bullying and this deal is no way benefitting India. It is going to have a major impact on India's farming sector making India a vassal state.

    Some excerpts from the article.

The U.S. makes it clear that it rescinded 25% punitive tariffs on India (imposed in August 2025), under three understandings: that India would stop buying Russian oil; that it had already begun to do so, and that the U.S. would impose tariffs again if India were to resume Russian oil supplies. Mr. Trump has even set up a panel of his top officials to monitor India’s oil intake. What is perhaps even more surprising is that the order states that India has agreed to “align sufficiently with the United States on national security, foreign policy, and economic matters”.
The Indian government has not so far denied any of these claims, instead issuing long statements outlining India’s energy sourcing priorities and the need to diversify its supply sources On the ground, the trends are clear: India’s imports of Russian oil have been reducing since November 2025, and oil purchases in December 2025 crashed to 38-month lows. From 40% of its oil intake in 2024, Russia now accounts for 25%.
Should India accept the U.S.’s ultimatums to halt Russian oil imports, it would mirror its 2019 approach of compliance on giving up Iranian and Venezuelan oil — resisting at first before ultimately yielding to U.S. pressure months later. The U.S. is now pushing for India to buy American and American-controlled Venezuelan oil, for India to give up the Chabahar port project and all trade with Iran.
If New Delhi agrees to all these, it will not only lose respect and goodwill with the countries in question (where India had promised to increase trade and investment) but also its credibility as a buyer and supplier in the market worldwide. This could prove particularly awkward for India as it prepares to host this year’s BRICS summit, with the leaders of Russia, Iran and other developing-world partners expected to attend.

  33. The Palestinian troupe that should have staged the play "The Last Play in Gaza" at ITFoK, didn't get travel clearence to travel to India. But the empty stage itself became a form of resistance.

At ITFoK, The Last Play in Gaza did not reach the stage. But its absence became an act of presence—proof that erasure is never complete, and that theatre, even when denied, can still speak

  35. This is an excellent read on the protests in #Iran and its background.

The below quote is very revealing, which no western media highlighted or told.

On January 2, on the day Mr. Trump declared the U.S. was “locked and loaded”, Mossad, Israel’s external spy agency, wrote on social media in Farsi, encouraging Iranians to protest against the government. “Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” Mossad wrote. “We are with you. Not only from a distance and verbally. We are with you in the field.” In October 2025, Haaretz, Israel’s liberal daily, reported that Israel was indirectly funding Persian language online campaigns targeting the Iranian government, and projecting Reza Pahlavi as the next Shah. This online network pushed out deep fake videos and misinformation during the June war, according to the report. On January 3, Mike Pompeo, former U.S. Secretary of State and CIA chief, wrote on social media, “Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also to every Mossad agent walking beside them.” On January 13, Channel 14, a far-right Israeli channel, reported that “foreign actors are arming the protesters in Iran with live firearms”.
