The event – sponsored by Building Relations with #Cuban #Labor (BRWCL) – was part of the annual #LaborNotes conference from June 12-14, that brought together 4,700 #union activists and organizers from across the country, and several delegations from other nations. Tanieris Diéguez, deputy head of the Cuban mission to the #UN, spoke of the impact of the U.S. blockade on the lives of the Cuban people. She emphasized that Cuba is a “country of peace” and is open to talk about cooperation with the #US, but only on the basis of respect for #Cuba’s national sovereignty. However, she added, we will “fight to defend our honor” against all acts of #US aggression.

June 11, 2026This Wednesday, the fourth and last photovoltaic #SolarEnergy project began to generate #electricity at the #LatinAmerican School of #Medicine (#ELAM), promoted by the #solidarity network #MediCubaEurope.
With a total installed power of 208 kWp, around 50% of the centre's energy demand is covered.
A mural illustrates the #SolarPanels on the roofs, contributed by international solidarity to contribute to this beautiful #Cuban internationalist project. This initiative is part of the #EnergyForLife program, which seeks to guarantee a stable and #sustainable supply to Cuban #health institutions in the context of the current #energy crisis, thus strengthening health services to the population.

Dr. Dayana Couto Núñez, president of the Cuban Society of #Gynecology and #Obstetrics, says shortages of medicines, medical supplies, technology and fuel are affecting surgeries, ultrasounds, diagnostic tests and maternal care.
According to Couto, the situation is making it harder to detect congenital malformations early and to care for premature and low-birth-weight babies, who often require specialized medication and high-tech equipment.

BotB recently held a screening of two documentaries on Cuban #medical missions. One is focused on #Cuban #doctors deployed to #Calabria, #Italy, and another follows a brigade of #African students from #ELAM (Cuba's #LatinAmerican School of #Medicine), who traveled to #GuineaBissau to provide medical care based on the training they received on the island.
Some of the ELAM students attended the screening and were given a standing ovation.
One audience member said: "Thank you for being heroes, not just of Cuba, but of the entire world."

We took to the streets to #Havana to see what people thought of his speech. Most hadn’t seen it.
“It’s just that I despise Marco Rubio so much that it’s not even worth listening to anything he says,” said Lucía Miret, 76, a retired teacher.
Most of those who saw it, rejected Rubio’s claim.
“It’s no secret to anyone that the blockade exists,” said Daimara Pérez, a doctor. “If the blockade didn’t exist then they should let the ships in.”
