Managed to accidentally hose #TomTom app with an update a few nights ago (there may have been a bug in latest version), so reluctantly tried out #GoogleMaps on #AndroidAuto

Privacy issues aside, its barely usable - #UI is cluttered, #speed indicators hard to see, no beep or other noise if you go over limit and its quite frankly not even that safe to look at when #driving

#TomTom app is now fixed, way better and worth the £20 for the years subscription

#Navi #GNSS software update - in the end I stuck with #TomTom Go (the paid one), although I did like #OsmAnd and had the paid version its way slower to pick up your vehicle speed from GNSS than TomTom and lacks real time #trafficinfo - whilst #OrganicMaps and #CoMaps still seem to be arguing about how to implement speed display on #AndroidAuto

#TomTom app behaves pretty much exactly like my old standalone navi, its a familiar, usable #UI and has accurate real time speed display plus 3 warning beeps the moment you go over the limit (which is often main reason I want this software, especially in familiar areas where I can navigate without the GNSS (as I grew up having to do this when younger!)

Как фильтровать GPS‑треки от ложных точек: спуфинг, заморозка координат, подмена времени

Спуфинг и подмена координат превращают gps треки в мусор. За год разработки бэка для сервиса GPS‑мониторинга я прошёл путь от наивных порогов по скорости и высоте до конвейера из двух десятков фильтров. В статье разбираю эволюцию воздействий: телепорты, заморозка координат, подмена timestamp, самосогласованный спуф с честными скоростями и высотами. Плюс разберу «коллегию адвокатов» для точек по принципу презумпции невиновности — лучше пропустить ложную точку, чем убить реальную и почему конвейер пришлось учить не только резать, но и восстанавливать срезанное.

Piloting at takeoff, landing, cruise and maximum "red line" are all by airspeed. Airspeed differs from ground speed by wind direction/speed you're flying in. Seven T-Beams, one GNSS timing reference.

I used the GNSS receiver's PPS signal to discipline software clocks on seven ESP32-based T-Beams, then tested the result through video, UART capture, internal logs, Perl parsing, and SQLite analysis.

The measured seven-unit median span was 166 µs across a 17-minute run.

A timing investigation for seven T-Beams: their external RTC preserves whole seconds, but cannot establish millisecond event order across units.

I added GNSS PPS capture plus ESP32 monotonic interpolation, compared the resulting disciplined timestamps against a PPS-backed laptop, and found normal agreement near zero while UART/USB delivery can lag hundreds of ms.
