I always knew it was about depression. I don't remember if I read it somewhere, or drew that conclusion on my own.
This is the most accurate musical expression of struggling with depression that I've ever heard.
I played it incessantly as a teen and I
still love it. It's one of the most raw , powerful, and emotional songs I've heard that isn't saccharine and cheesy.

(ETA : I know this isn't a recent article, it's from 2018, but the facts are the same.)
