Golden Smog, On Golden Smog, 1992 on Crackpot Records
Golden Smog were a "supergroup" of sorts (see the hype sticker) with members of The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, The Replacements, and Run Westy Run. When this EP was released in 1993 it was not pressed on vinyl. The band members all used pseudonyms in the credits, and the songs are all covers, by: Michaelangelo, Har, Bad Company, Rolling Stones, and Thin Lizzy. Today’s listening is ‘Blood On The Slacks’, the 2007 album by Golden Smog.
With this, their fourth and final album, the loose collective known as Golden Smog went out with something of a whimper rather than a bang.
A short album which contained a couple of covers, including a good, but rather pointless, take on ‘Starman’ by David Bowie.
Sadly not their best work and another in my Public Service Series ‘Albums that I listen to so that you don’t have to’!

Today’s listening is ‘Weird Tales’, the 1998 album by the ‘Supergroup’ Golden Smog, who included Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) amongst their members at the time.
It’s a very good album, although the quality does drop off a bit here and there.
