#animalcollective — Public Fediverse posts

I’ve always strongly disagreed with the statement that Merriweather Post Pavilion is #AnimalCollective’s best album. It’s obviously #StrawberryJam. That album is their unique sound at its best. Every song is a banger too. It’s not as accessible as MPP, but it’s a slow burn that grows on you and gets under your skin.

I always rediscover this album every few years. Something about their music is very satisfying to my absolute core. It feels like music that gets you.

JETTY is an incredible cinematic chronicling of Rockaway Beach culture and ecological engineering (you can purchase it for $7 directly from the filmmaker).

It's a meditation on Rockaway and the jetties they're building, Rockaway Beach culture glorious (and sobering). With music by Animal Collective.

The year is about over. What was your favorite album of 2023? The rules are it had to have been a new release in 2023. No reissues, etc. Being new to you doesn’t count either.

For me it is #AnimalCollective’s #IsntItNow. This album really was a strong return to greatness IMO. This is also the best engineered and master album they have ever released. I understand Animal Collective isn’t for everyone, but I love this band. #music #bestalbumsof2023 #bestalbum2023

Today I shall mostly be drinking this and listening to #animalcollective #musicandcoffee #drinkgoodcoffee

Feels released in 2005. This might be my favorite so far. #AnimalCollective

Sung Tongs released in 2004. This one has a much more accessible sound. It's pretty much what I would consider a psychedelic folk album. It actually has some clear melodies and tight vocal harmonies. At times it sounds almost like extremely twisted Simon and Garfunkel with a bit of a psychedelic Beach Boys thrown in there as well. I'd say it's probably their most fun and playful sounding album so far. It even has what I would call a childlike exuberance at times. #AnimalCollective

I'm at a bit of a loss on how to describe this one. It's as weird as Danse Manatee, but with better production and it seems to be more focused on texture. It oscillates between psychedelic freaks and some quieter and comparatively calmer moments. #AnimalCollective

Up next, Here Comes the Indian, later reissued as Ark from 2003. The first album actually released under the name #AnimalCollective.
