  3. CW: pics of cops on my train

On my way to school this afternoon, there were some kinda #cops in #uniform. One was blocking my normal seat, which was folded up. It was raining, y'all, and I had my #whiteCane in its holster. i don't go up steps to sit because, in addition to being #blind, I have an arthritic knee.

Anyway, #transit has #signs all over everywhere reminding us that if we see something, we should *say* something.

So, I texted the transit cops that there were uniformed people who were #blocking the folded up seats for #disabled and I was afraid to ask them to move and put it down. I told them which train number. They thanked me.

I was able to sneak a pic because always hold my phone close read it.

Fat cop in the pic moved around a lot, so I saw his arm patch. I don't speak patch, but there wer three stripes above and three below the middle symbol, and I remembered #RobinWilliams in "Good Morning Vietnam" saying that three up, three down meant the end of the inning.

Skinny cop showed me his back, and it said "Sheriff" in all caps, but not till I was leaving.

  7. So back in The Borders, and we have small roads. One of the ‘short cuts’ involves a small bridge - with Feking great signs reminding it is a small bridge, very narrow not to mention banned for vehicles over a certain weight. So what does some stupid driver attempt to do with an HGV - which would not even have fitted over the bridge. Cue a certain disruption. Delivering Winners, driven by Pillocks. Passable on a bike.

  9. I've had an enquiry about this fading fascia that has been retained in situ at 74 Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1*.

It's a palimpsest for R. Sullivan (Wardrobe Dealer) and what someone once told me were metal workers A. Liechti

Various street directories between 1882–1939 have a tobacconists here, including those prior to 1900 when the house number looks like it was 56. However, the Liechti sign also seems to have the number 58 or 68 on it...

The presence of 74 on the Sullivan layer means that that sign at least is post-1939, unless that business was a short-lived occupancy between two tobacconists.

Can anyone shed any further light on it all?

  15. Note: Line 12 of the paris metro is an (the?) archetypical Nord-Sud line, but at its extrema you can see a concentrate of the history of the Parisian underground: Falguière station with the only remaining yellow enamel sign of the entire system (alongside Parmentier), Pasteur with some of the few rare original Hte Boulenger & Cie tiles, and Corentin Celton/Marie d'Issy with more stereotypical CMP-style platforms. #history #signs #tile #parismetro #Ligne12 #design #obsession

  18. These were getting a lot of photographs, and rightfully so. I was surprised I didn’t see more “Nuremberg trials” stuff but glad it was still there - accountability before healing. [7/?]

  19. The wind took off my face shield at one point, gusts were strong!
Times Square was wild, with tourists sitting on the sidelines.
After walking from here down to 36th, I came back to find the march was still going strong at four o’clock! [5/?]

  20. This is approaching the heart of Times Square, complete w/ *47th Street* sign, TKTS… This section took forever. We were merging w/ the impromptu marchers down Broadway.
Note the huge report card. Its other side was an opposite take, like a wish list, all graded “F”. I felt badly for him, the sign was so huge, but he'd hoist it and flip it periodically. Good for him. Good for us. [4/?]

We were kind of slow, but kept moving, until we neared Times Square. [2/?]

  22. NYC march was definitely the biggest so far. I marched from 2 to 3:30, from 54th to 36th, took the train back home to 49th Times Square and the march kept going till well after 4! [1/?]

  23. More signs found that Mediterranean eating reduces brain disease risk

Friday, 27 March 2026, 14:51 Greek yoghurt, fresh tomatoes and greens, fish so fresh it drips seawater, little by way of saturated fats or processed food and of course…

  24. @maitre-poulard.bsky.social This 'spectacular' was designed by Douglas Leigh and produced by Artkraft Strauss. They collaborated on many of the signs that made Times Square famous for the medium.

Pictured here is Leigh's entry in the American Sign Museum book and, in addition to material at the Smithsonian, the Museum holds a significant archive of his work.

OK, it's not as good a lookout as I was expecting - you can look over the roofs on the slope below. But I guess it's good to know it's there!
