Microsoft released an IPv6 Technology Preview for Windows 2000. It works! Management is all done with the command line and you're limited when it comes to support, but it does work! My Compaq Deskpro EN is now talking to the modern IPv6 world.

I could #repair my first #C64. It was mainly a nasty short circuit on the multiplexed address lines on the ram and the VIC-II. I still have to sort out a few details (a CIA misbehaving), but most of the computer is now working and the BASIC V2 prompt shows a blinking cursor. I have a #C128D since 1994, but this is my very first real C64 😍Many thanks to @root42 and @janbeta who patiently gave many key advices. #retrocompuing

My #IBM 5155 is finally up and running! There's still a lot to do, but I'm on the right track. It has only 256K of memory, so some older programs I have won't run on it, and I cannot format new floppies. The #DOS 3.3 5 1/4" floppy from the 80s that I found at my parents' house still works. If only today's hardware producers delivered the same quality as they did back then. The manuals from IBM in the 80s can't be compared to the many useless manuals available today. #retrocompuing #computers

I think the time has come. I have an old Mac (LC III) that needs the capacitors replaced. I've been practicing my technique on an old main board. I think tomorrow I'll move to the actual board. Wish me luck.

hey #retrocompuing nerds, i have a question. do you know of any premade expansion card slot plates that have pass-through for things like vga-to-vga? i'll have an old case and a raspberry pi in it with an hdmi-to-vga cable. i'd like to have the monitor plug in into the back of the case rather than having a dangling cable snaking in, ya know? oh, also, any psu-to-usb converters?

Finally, after 20 years of search I found a #commodorepet at the #fleamarket, and complete with an 8050 #floppydrive unit too!
The seller reports a dead PSU within the main unit, but it sold for so little that I couldn't not take the risk. #retrocompuing #commodore

had to remove the screw thingies to plug in to the ST... which are all that holds the outer shield on 🙃
oh well, might have to glue it on?
connected to Level 29, as is tradition
the wifi modem won't connect to the house wireless for some reason, so i connected it to my phone
that's right, this 520ST has 5G wireless connectivity!

it's thanksgiving so i should probably get this off the kitchen table
sanded the rust off the shielding best i could, and as an experiment, rubbed it down with pure mineral oil, which looks interesting in the sun
you can run entire motherboards bathed in mineral oil, so it should protect against rust without hurting electronics

welp this Mega ST is kinda boned, last it worked it required poking this area, where jumpers were added for the memory upgrade, which does point it to being an address issue
and was where most of the water pooled
scrubbed corrosion off the ground, the rest is remarkably clean, and resoldered some things, but it's still unhappy
going to have to go full Adrian Black on this thing

So there I am with my #Compaq Armada 1570D and can't figure out how to get to BIOS. Need to change the boot order as it's only searching for a boot disk in drive A and will not look for drive C (with #DOS installed on it!) Tried a few combos, anybody knows the exact one?
