Because suddenly #Renewables , #Retrofit and #ClimateAction were too expensive to actually do in government or did chasing #Reform ‘s coattails mean conveniently #Labour no longer needed to care?

On Friday they realised they lost whole swathes of voters across the country they’d taken for granted. Now they want them back less than a week later.

I don’t think #ECO4 was responsibly managed by the energy companies…that was largely due to the #Tories leaving them to their own devices.

But the #retrofit work cannot overnight be picked up by other schemes.

#DESNZ thinks it can suddenly offer a tonne of money to local authorities and housing associations (previously linked to ECO4) with a ridiculous short window to spend it.

#Labour are showing they have no idea how to manage large scale projects and budgets.

I have both of Marion's "Residential Retrofit" books, so already knew this would be a good episode, even then it blew me away. Myth busting that low energy buildings require the occupant to "manage" their environment, and the "rebound effect" is a non-issue as once energy demand has been reduced by 80%, even doubling that still works out to be less energy.

Got my work cut out for the weekend. Bedroom bay window is a stud wall filled with brick off cuts. To be insulated with 160mm of the finest German made woodfibre. New book for if I get bored too. More details in alt text.

Current U-value is ~2.1W/(m²K), will be ~0.22W/(m²K)

From the thermal image, can see how bad the problem is. The detail is showing a horizontal midsection slice, it's also more complex as this is a curved wall. I hope to also insulate the part of the wall between the floor joists too.

Even so, I saw first hand the potential for poor design, installation and regulatory compliance.

The industry is very fragmented and too much trust was put in consultants to have oversight of projects for #DESNZ. These consultants rarely had to go to site and had no trade/on the tools knowledge of #retrofit installation.

Subcontracting is another big issue. The accreditations might have been held by a ‘principal installer’ but that was meaningless in terms of who did the actual work.

Not sure how many #MVHR (or #passivehouse) nerds there are on here but I'm hopefully (finally) getting my roof done soon. At some point in the future I'd like to install an MVHR unit in the loft (1-2 years). Would it be silly to install the roof supply/exhaust terminals at the same time as the new roof? Like £200-300 for them vs the £1000+ for scaffolding to install down the line.

2009: Mit der EnEV 2009 wurde der zulässige Jahresprimärenergiebedarf für Neubauten um ca. 30 % gesenkt. Das ergibt einen Richtwert von ca. 70 kWh/m².

2014: Die EnEV 2014 senkte den Jahres-Primärenergiebedarf erneut um 25 %, was einem Grenzwert von ca. 52,5 kWh/m² entspricht.

2016: Mit der EnEV 2016, wurde der Primärenergiebedarf nochmals um durchschnittlich 25 % gesenkt. Das ergibt einen Richtwert von ca. 40 kWh/m².

2021: Mit dem Gebäudeenergiegesetz (GEG) bleibt der Jahres-Primärenergiebedarf grob gesagt bei den Werten der EnEV 2016.

So tonight I went to the #Norwich South hustings at #UEA.

Sadly Clive Lewis, current #Labour MP was a no show…they sent the local Labour councillor instead, who struggled to get from one end of a sentence to the other.

#Green Party candidate Jamie Osborn was very strong and well received…particularly on rent reforms, #Trans and #Non-binary rights and #Retrofit.

The #LibDem Sean Bennett was really solid and did well on #NHS and #EU…but crowd not receptive.

So what about Tory and Reform…

By my calcs we’ve not quite exceeded £1 for any one day yet, although today was very close, & some of that is actually for hot 💦 (cos the hot water heat pump is stealing heat from the house). Shame there’s not an easy way to also monitor heat output to get a COP! 💪

It looks like a local Tesla Supercharger near me has been upgraded with the CCS1 retrofit. This Supercharger is way closer to me than the nearest Electrify America.

I might check it out this weekend. Though I likely won’t need a charge so will probably leave the stations alone.

Given there’s already people complaining about cheaper EVs using high power chargers, I expect to catch grief when I do use it.
